Real ECU Reset?
I was searching everythingmercedes.com and found this post about ECU/learned driving reset. I tried this method (as opposed to the 1st position, gas pedal for 5 sec deal) and heard what sounded almost like a mechanical whirling sound for about 5-10 seconds. Took my car out for a little test and I was very happy. Please try this and let me what you think.
1.Turn the key to the on position (don't start the car) 2.Step on the gas for approximately 2 minutes You should hear the reset in the dashboard (sounded like it was coming from the passenger side near the glove box) |
Anyone else tried it yet?
|
what make you thing this will reseting the ecu ? and why would doint that make you happer ?
|
It resets the learned driving and seemed to eliminate the acceleration lag. Car drives like when it was new. Much better response and smoother shifting.

Nah didn't work for me :nix:

Insert key 1st position=? 2nd position=accessories 3rd position=Engine start I tried it in the 2nd position and it didn't work. Then I did 1st position and it worked. :nix: Did you ever get pics of your new foglight bulbs? I wanted the Spark Blues but couldn't find them locally. |
Yea, I just tried it once more but no go, sorry bro. I did take some photo's last night, I'll try to put them up tonight or tomorrow afternoon at the latest. Their the 7500K Spark Blue PIAA bulbs.

or press the button once (without holding the brake down)
|
i tried it and i too heard the sound coming from the glovebox (area)
however, i do not notice a big difference while driving...? also, i assume you just reset a chip, so no (mechanical) sound would be heard? therefore i'm guessing the sound from glovebox is something else. |

it works. takes about 1:50 - 2 mins.
|
What kind of noise should I hear? I held it for 2-3 minutes and nothing. I'm suppose to press the gas pedal down all the way and hold it for 2 minutes right?

Listen guys, it works on every MB I've ever been in. W211, W220, W203, W208, W204, W215 ect. All of them. What this does is reset the throttle computers learned traits from your regular driving. The ECU's are some what adaptive and respond based on how they are driven. Anyway, by doing this you wipe out those memory banks and the car is reset and you will feel the car seems a little crisper and torquey. Its a huge difference in my AMG because I drive it so much when I want it at its fullest I do this reset. I read quickly but this is my rendition. Keep in mind, it is easier to here the "ping" or small "click" if you have some type of metal keychain maybe hanging from you key. You will likely here it move as a result of the ping or click which will help you to confirm that you have done this correctly. With that in mind.....
1. get in the car 2. put the key in the ignition 3. Turn the key two clicks to the right and as you reach the second click simultaneously press and hold the gas pedal TO THE FLOOR and hold for 7 one thousands 4. As you end the 7th one thousand WITH YOUR FOOT STILL ON THE PEDAL turn your key to the off position (2 to the left) and once the key reaches the off position simultaneously remove your foot completely from the gas pedal and......wait 5. Do not remove the key until you have heard the ping or click. It is distinct but quiet. You will know what it is when you hear it. It has taken anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes to wipe out my memory at times depending on how much I have driven. Sit and wait. No radio, no A.C. just sit and be patient. You will hear it if you follow these instructions. 5. When you do hear the click/ping whatever, then remove the key from the ignition and put it back in and now you can start the car. 6. Enjoy, this can be done as often as you'd like :y |
whats "7th one thousand"? can you be more clear about the time you have to dipress the paddle?
|
so we now have 3 different explanations on how to reset...
confusing. |
It means count to 7 at a slow to moderate pace. Take a breath between each count like your working out at the gym. There may be a bunch of instructions but if you follow mine the way I have posted them you will get what you are looking for. That isn't to say that this hold it for 2 minutes thing doesn't do SOMETHING, I'm sure it probably does, but as to what I can't confirm. I DO KNOW that what I posted WORKS and has worked in EVERY MB I have ever been in. All of them. 4Matic, AMG whatever. Just follow the instructions. However, there is a disclaimer to those of you outside the US I can't promise you the same because i have never been in a euro spec MB nor do I know if they work any differently than ours do, but I would have to imagine that alot of these types of functions remain the same regardless of where they are sold.

I used postion 2 of the key and pressed the paddle. waited for 7 counts and then switch key off and released the paddle . Kept the key in, After 4 mins of waiting there is no sound i heard fromt he glove box area. I have not driven the car yet to tell the difference. I think if some one post a video on Youtube explainng the process , that would be great.
