X3 and 2012 C coming soon
Tirerack sells them for $1219.00. I'm gonna see if ECS can beat it. This is definitely my next mod.

Thanks for the heads-up AZN.

Yeah, ok, that's ridiculous pricing, I agree. I'll check with him on that.

I had TEIN Coilovers on my w203. I hear so many mixed things about coilovers. I hear that having regular lowering springs makes the rider more comfortable. And by having coilovers, the ride is rougher. Is that true? I figured since both setups (regular lowering springs, coilovers) use stock shocks so that the ride should be the same right?

H&R uses their own shocks that are matched to to springs. This is from the Tirerack website:

H&R continues its innovative design and manufacture of new suspension technologies with the introduction of their Street Performance Coil-Over Kits. Featuring black, hard-anodized aluminum front struts for strength and beauty, Street Performance Coil-Over Kits ultimately reduce unsprung weight 30-40% over stock struts and lower an average of 1.0" to 2.5" for optimized performance and ride.

Blueprinted as coil-overs (not just a modified shock body), the H&R units are hand-assembled in Germany by H&R Speziafedern under rigid ISO 9001 and German TÜV standards. Strict attention to the function of the complete suspension system is the number one design priority.

Like the Coil-Over Suspension Kits, the Street Performance Coil-Over Kits' threaded body means that the outside of the strut or shock tubes are threaded like a bolt. This allows the threaded spring perch to be moved up or down to fine-tune the ride height, further optimizing looks and handling. Available for popular Audi, BMW and Volkswagen applications, these coil-overs feature H&R's exclusive damper technology. Each shock is specifically engineered to work smoothly with the progressive rate springs.

Tirerack's website also indicates:

Ride Height: Threaded Adjustment
Note: Avg low 1.5-2.8"F & 1.2-2.2"R.
Lowering height will vary on vehicles with factory sport suspension. Excludes 4Matic.

I can't wait to get a set.

With coil-overs, you're not using the original shocks.

Keeping it very simple:

coil-overs = spring/shock COMBO
lowering springs = springs only

coilovers

I want to buy coilovers really bad but I have some questions maybe you guys can help me with. I already have the H@R sport springs and I like them but the main reason why i'd buy coilovers and why alot of people buy them is to slam the car and make it look more agressive. My first questions is how is the camber? Would you have to purchase a camber kit? and When it comes to tire ware, would the tires not last as long with coilovers? I have aftermarket rims and tires, 19 inch wheels al around with 255's running in the back. How will my ride be? Whille i be going through tires like crazy? thanks

I am waiting until next month to order mine. I don't drive my C in the winter, so there is no big hurry. AZN, where did you order yours? I think I am going with Tire Rack. They are only $1219.00. They are actually going to give me a refund for my Eibachs.

KuiDaCroat22, slam it...seriously? I hope most people buy them for the performance benefits. Eventhough you can "slam" your car with H&R coilovers, it's not a good idea to drive it that way. H&R advises against lowering or raising all the way with their system.

Getting it through the shop I work with here. Cheaper. I'll take pics when I get them on. Hopefully I'll be able to get them on next week. If not, then it'll have to be after new years as I'll be in Socal over the holidays.

is it easy to raise & lower the car by oneself? I want to get coilvers so i can lower my cars in the summer, but raise it in the winter when I take it to the mountains to go snowboarding & stuff.

However if it requires an alignment each time, its not worth it. Also how do you ensure that all 4 corners are perfectly level?

AZN, I was going to ask this earlier. Can you snap some shots of the top of the rear shock mounts during the install. I don't want to blindly rip into the trunk carpet. Thanks!

I like the fact that the H&Rs don't have damp and rebound adjustments. Nice and easy. BTW, how much cheaper? Can I get a hook-up? Just kidding.

Delirium, you can do it by yourself. To adjust them, you jack the car up, remove the wheel, and use the two supplied wrenches to move the spring seat. You should measure stock ride height prior to installing coilovers. As far as getting a new alignment, I would.

I'll take as many pics as I can. I'm not supposed to be too close to the lift area due to insurance reasons, but usually they don't mind.

Yeah I am serious when I say I want to slam it. Our cars power have barely any power, it makes sense to buy coils for a c63 for performance reasons but a c300 or c350 I would say its mostly for looks on my part then performance. Yes i will like the stiffer ride and better handling, but Im looking forward to lowering it more. Do what you want with your car though. I have other cars for performance so when im driving my C i dont normally drive it hard or anything.n but i dont really see what the problem is with slamming your car, alot of people do it and it looks good

actually on handling, the normal w204 with the same coilover and sway bars will handle better than the C63 just without the extra power. The 63 motor is a good 200+lb heavier on the nose of the car. less power doesn't mean it's not worth it to have good handling. i.e. the MX5, the RX8, the S2000, Civic SI, etc.

if you only want the lowered look you can just cut the springs and save yourself tons of money.
