W204 Engineering Menu
Hi All, I'm sure many of you are aware of the Engineering Menu in the W204 C-Class by holding telephone off / # / 1 buttons together. I have also used this to install the backup camera and will also install a retrofit navigation unit soon.
On a German discussion forum someone printed out their list of parameters in the Engineering Menu and it included a section called Prohibitive Parameters, where you can set the speed at which Video turns off (Video in Motion). I'm wondering if anyone has these parameters in their menu. They are not in mine but perhaps it is available in a newer software version of the Comand?
Here is a list of parameters that can be set on the German W204:

i bet if you have the MB star thing that the dealer uses, you can change the prohibitive setting...
Why would the setting be in there, if there wasn't a way to change it???
It is simply a matter of finding out HOW, not IF, it can be changed

COMAND OS Windows CE can be updated for VIM. We need a LOADING.KWI file from map update disk or COMAND update disk. I think latest map update disk which include audio fade option has this file. Anyone has that file? Not only VIM, custom start page and etc. can be added. Mitsubishi outlander has same type of head unit and they can do the update.

If you know what address to program via STAR it can be enabled, but not with a STAR the dealer uses.

I have a friend with Star system and today we looked for the "prohibitive parameters". We found a section within Comand where you can do SCN Coding. You can first view the current parameters, which shows the many parameter items above, including TV/Video speed setting. We then went into SCN coding to try and set this (in offline mode) but were unable to find where we can actually set this.
Maybe someone here whom is an expert with Star can point out where and how to set the SCN Coding? We got as far as Offline SCN Coding screen and Manual SCN Coding but it then displays a code screen and asks for a 4 digit (xx-xx) code - I'm assuming this is where you enter the 4 digit code of the Speed prohibitive setting to change it, but I'm not sure of the codes.
Anyone with expertise in Star, could you help? Thanks!

The only way to change it of line, you first have to get the scn coding from MB.
You may be able to set VIM throgh scn coding, but you need to know what all the numbers are for (options, settings & so on).

Earlier cars are pretty much wide open as to what can be coded, but newer cars (2007+ W211, W221, W204, etc.) pretty much require SCN to make virtually any change.
If you are familiar with activating Windows XP or other Microsoft products, it works similar. Submit a code, receive a code.
A dealer will have access to SCN coding through their STAR subscription, however some non-dealers may not have access to this. I don't think MB would grant the request to a dealer to enable this feature.

SCN = Software Calibration Number. This is essentially Daimler's way of preventing dealer service centers from making unneeded changes and warranty claims as a result if incorrect coding. You must request the code to MB clearinghouse, and they will return a SCN code for you if they justify it as being needed.

There are not very many developers out there with SDS machines that are willing to invest the time - sure, some money could be made, but people have discovered that selling a module is the best way to make money - that idea can't be sold on eBay and passed around in forums so they hack a module together and market that.

I've looked extensively at the developer mode SDS, and I'm not convinced that you can actually change the max speed for video even with a valid SCN - the parameters look read only to me. I'm pretty sure it's actually controlled by the code on the COMAND itself, so short of doing a SDFlash with new code via SDS, I think you are screwed...
As an FYI, the three different kits I've looked at to disable the limit all screw with the CAN speed signal, which pretty much kills the "dead reckoning" mode on the HU. I'd be interested if anyone else has seen anything different.
The above said, if anyone wants to create a dd image of the drive in their comand, I'm more than willing to play with it - no warranty, and bricking is likely! :P

Exactly Polar Bear - the "pdf sellers" on eBay know they are screwed after the first sale.

Patching the OS with updated VIM value is another option. Same manufacturer MELCO head unit in other forum.
