Damn. I wish I hadn't seen this post so late. I bought my car in March of '08 and have 18,500 miles now, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. My SA is cool. Even got my car aligned under warranty after I installed my H&R springs. Cross your fingers for me...if not I'll just raise hell at MBUSA or break down and do it myself.

The rears get so dirty it's ridiculous. Not to mention it can ruin the paint at the rear of the car too. I've already had the car clay bar'd once.

I've got a 1pm appt. tomorrow to get my service A and to get my pads swapped out. When I first called the dealer about the TSB, they denied or better yet "couldn't find it". I finally hit em with so many numbers i.e., TSB, updated part #'s, that the poor guy finally broke down and "found" the TSB. Of course the svce A was a condition of the swap. But get this; about 20 minutes ago, I get a call from the svce dept. saying that the TSB doesn't mean that everyone gets the new pads. Of course I let them know that I own a pre-June '08 vehicle, less than 12 months since purchased (July 12 08) and less than 7K on the odie. Silence............... then "OK, we'll take a look and talk about it tomorrow when you get here. Silence............................. then I say "there's nothing to talk about, it's already been settled that my pads are to be replaced during my visit and svce A tomorrow and if you try to back out of it, I'll put your dealership on blast all over the internet. I'm bringing a printout of the TSB and upgraded part numbers with me so there will be no "misunderstanding" of what it is I'm talking about" Silence....................... then, "we'll see you tomorrow at 1 sir". Hung up.
The nerve of these A-holes! you spend $40K on a brand new car and they're your best friend in the world, try to get them to fix a $300 (their) F-up and you'd swear they had a PhD in tap dance! I'll post 2morrow to let you guys/gals how it went. BTW, the dealer is Mercedes of Orland Park.

You are correct about going to the parts department and getting the same darn pads that causes the dusting thus why ive been procrastinating from going even though the MB dealer is like 10 minutes from my house ??
I just got mine replaced today as well as the ipod low volume problem fixed. I passed the 1yr mark and it wasn't a problem. The SA didn't give me any issues, I just gave him the TSB #s and that was it. He actually thanked me for giving him the #s so they won't have to go search for them. I see that you are in North Jersey Elaine. Try prestige mb in Paramus, thats where I went. No hassle at all.

12 Months, 12,000 Miles

I have a 2008 C350 but was purchased in July of 2007
I have almost 19,000 miles. After reading this post I called and just said that there is a TSB for new pads and that I complained about it before the 12, 12
(I really did) within weeks of ownership.
They are going to swap out the pads for free this Friday.

If you are over the 12 months or 12k miles try anyway. They most likely will
replace for free

When I went in for my Service A they didn't tell me anything about the brakes. I hope they'll cover it since I think they should have noticed my car fell into the criteria at the time it went in.

Is it supposed to be our job to find out about TSBs?

Who said the clean brakes don't work? Aren't these the pads they put on all the 09s.

Problem solved here as well. I used to have filthy wheels after two days of driving and 20 miles. With the new pads installed under warranty last week (11.5 months of ownership, 6k miles), the wheels are still clean after 3 days and close to 200 miles!

PS: I had to insist, politely but forcefully, for the SA to go ahead; I forwarded the info found here to the dealership, and provided a link to this thread. This seems to have done the trick, after being told beforehand that there was no TSB, this was not a known issue, etc. My SA is always very professional and I have known him for a while, btw, so my suspicion is that the issue is not widely known.

Rear Brake Pads replaced on '09 350

Took my '09 350 in for service today. Found out for '09 there was no more free diagnostic visit... !!!!

Told SR about the brake dust and he sent the car into the shop. About an hour later he told me they took care of it and replaced the pads. Said the TSB did apply. Here is the service notations on the order.

As we know there, is a TSB on this issue, do not give up! get them to change out the pads if you have a "C Class" with the problem.
Dealer replaced my rear pads but not without some hemming and hawing. I even gave them the bulletin and they still acted like I was freeloading.

Why raise hell? Didn't you get an alignment you weren't entitled to? Call it even.

UPDATE:
Almost 200 miles later very little brake dust.
Should have been like this from day one.

so, have people with 09 cars had this done? I am sure I have this issue, it is the exact oppossite of every merc I have owned, where fronts of course show the bulk of brake dust. My rears require attention after very little use.

FYI:
This is not a TSB but a "Star Bulletin". My service writer didn't have this in his system but when I insisted, he checked his shop foremans Star System and found the bulletin. May explain all the trouble many of us have been having. Got my new pads installed last week and cleaned her all up today...looking forward to seeing how long the rear wheels will stay looking clean.

A little update. It's been about 5 months and over 5,000 miles since my rear brake pads were replaced. Still very little brake dust now and a dramatic improvement over the original pads which were ridiculous from day 1. I was a little worried because I remember reading a previous post saying that the dusting will eventually come back. But so far so good. Braking performance is as good if not better than before. I also notice that the front wheels will actually start building up dust more than the rears after a few weeks of driving(the way it should be). Still very happy!

+1 but not as many miles after the change. But after only 3 weeks I can tell a huge difference... very, very little on the rears if any and the front has the standard MB dust which will probably continue into eternity...

I was told this by my salesman

My car does same exact thing,I have the same car it's the way the braking system is designed more pressure may be applied to back to keep the car perfectly balanced creating more brake dust in the rear .

This may be true, but it doesn't explain why we get much less brake dust when we had our pads replaced. The difference is literally night and day. I can't explain why, but I don't really care...I'm living the life with nice clean wheels. I'll give a one year update when the time comes.

So when I called mercedes awhile back and asked them about the excessive brake dust and if there is a replacement. I never got a phone call back, then when I asked my service advisor when I took the car in for service, he didnt know but a technician told me the story about "thats just how the brake pads are on mercedes etc... and that I could get new brake pads with service B" Well with this information I took it today to my dealership and they said they would look into it and give me a call back. They probably wont replace my pads now, because I am over the mileage. I did however ask them twice about this (excessive rear brake dust). My AMG wheels in the rear are pretty much non cleanable to new, meaning there are black dots on the rim that cannot be cleaned anymore (hope that makes since). I clean inside the rear-well as well.

Just to let you guys know as well I had my rear differential replaced as well pretty crazy
internal splines of final drive were broken off.

SUBJECT:
Model 204.054/056/081, Up to 06/2008 Series Production

Only first 12 months or 12000 miles will be covered.

My C300 that I bought last month has this problem.
Do you think it's too late to get these new pads?

I dont know? I think it should be replaced under the warranty. I think people on this forum know about the issue and some have had their brake pads replaced (is it true etc... I dont know, because I have certainly told my dealership about it prior to service A "13,000K.") They certainly didnt replace my brake pads, and then I saw this thread up again and took the article number to my service advisor. The strange thing he told me today was "this is about the squeaking noise and u will not notice a difference in the brake dust." He told me, he would look into it and they would call me back.

My C300 definitely falls under the model number because they checked, but now Im over the mileage. I did however, ask my dealership twice about this issue. Hopefully, there is truth to the WIS article number and they will replace my brake pads
