**HIDDEN: Compass and Side-View Cameras

5 Attachment(s)
I really hope this wasnt posted before, but I played around with the eng mode, and unlocked a compass(which is amazing) Unfortunately the compass isn't on the main map screen, but this forum has been very helpful to me, and its time i repay my debt. so here is what it looks like:
Please note the compass moves as you drive
To enable the compass. go to 7-7-10 in eng mode
These last two pictures are of a side view camera option. Can someone please research this option and figure out what it does?
Also please let me know what you think!

* Please use cation when using either of these two options. I do not take any responsibility for what may happen. Attempt at your own risk.

my guess is that Merc uses the same nav software for all their models including the S class. so that side view camera is probably something that is/will be found on the S class like the bmw system.

ad that compass is cool...lol

Nuru 04-19-2009 03:32 PM

side-view camera? This is new to me?

BTW, to enable this mode, do you press any of the keys simultaneously or just all serially?
Also does Comand allow you to exit the Eng Mode by turning it off, and then back on, or is there another way to exit that mode?

7-7-10 was "Off-road function" for me
i enabled it and nothing

What version of Command do you have?

I restarted everything, even went for a drive, still nothing

Im familiar with the ENG menu, as I have a backup cam installed and working just fine and had to "restart" like you said but to no avail, no compass

i had to wait about 5 mins before the compass appeared on my comand. Thanks theraj2 for this great find! :D

How come I don't see this "Off-Road Function" in my car? It shows 7.7.10 as something else that's NOT clickable. :nix:

There is a side view NOSE camera in R&D in europe. Lets one see around the end of an alley, or hedge. Pretty nice, I hope it makes it to production

Bokx_350 04-19-2009 09:58 PM

I was checking the new BMW 7 series at my dealer (Herb Chambers own both Mercedes and BMW dealers, among many otheres) and it has this feature of the side cameras. The cameras are located on the fron fenders in front of the wheels. The screen is split vertically and each side shows that camera. I guess this is only usefull when going out of tight spaces to make sure no pedestrian or car is comming. I would say this is more a show-off feature than it is practical. I wonder why that option is even there on our COMAND. As someone said, maybe it is the same software they use in other higher end models.

Could be your version of command. have you had any updates since you picked up the car? I haven't checked mine yet but I doubt it will work as my command needs updateing. Will ask again at my 15,000 mile service next week.

Krytech 04-20-2009 01:10 PM

Nice, can't wait for lunch to test this out! :D

Good find!

sameer13 04-20-2009 02:12 PM

I have a 09 C300 2.2 09 build and it works on mine. I have the updated software as I know that I cannot change RIP to COPY to my hard drive option. The old version allowed you to do that.

^ maybe your comand firmware is old.
do you have audio fade out option on you comand?

nickm 04-20-2009 08:32 PM

My navigation on the bottom left already has a tiny compass?

Actually I don't think I have that option. Is that an update from the dealership or is it an update that I need to buy the Navi-DVD? Last time I took my car to get serviced (2 months ago) they said there were no new updates :nix:

lx Raven xl 04-21-2009 04:31 AM

Same here Raven, I think it must be US/North America specific. My options ended at 7-7-9 in Eng. mode

I also have the updated software with fade out

berkut_g 04-21-2009 10:23 AM
