Tint %

Looking for opinions on which tint % to choose from. I narrowed it down to 35% front sides, 20% rear sides and 20% rear or 50% front side, 35% rear side and 35% rear. Basically where I live only the front is regulated at 50%. Our windows seem pre- tinted therefore even 50% would put me over the limit. Opinions?

FrankW 04-23-2009 08:16 PM

i went 30 all around.

Ron Jr 04-24-2009 07:41 AM

50% front 35% rear I didn't want hassles from the police.

AMGTTV8 04-24-2009 07:48 AM

just go 35 all the way around...anything less is really not worth the money - you won't be achieving anything.

Nevada Jack 04-24-2009 09:21 AM

I went 35% on the front sides and 20% on the rear sides and back window. Works well in this sun laden land of Las Vegas and also looks good per my pics on the pic thread.

I'm in the same boat. Even doing the lightest film I can find still puts me over the legal limit here. I suppose it's fine because I don't want a dark tint so if I do it I'll probably do the 50% all around. Not really a fan of mixed tints on sedans.

I think 35% is the limit on front windows in Nevada, but I can not really tell any difference when looking at the car the 15% difference from the back and rear window.

make the same shade of tint all around. looks 100x better.

Like interior and exterior color selection, it is all a matter of personal taste...:-)

aowhaus 04-24-2009 03:43 PM

The legal limit here in Colorado is 30% which is what I went with.
I wanted to go a little darker (20%), but I didn't want to take that risk.

I'm not a fan of having a difference in tinting between the front doors and rear doors, unless you went with a 30%/20% where the difference in darkness is not as noticable.

FrankW 04-24-2009 04:01 PM

you can go darker tint on a lighter color interior btw. it won't look as dark as those with dark color interior.

peabers 04-24-2009 04:13 PM

I agree with Frank. 35% on my black interior looks plenty dark, but on my friend's grey interior it looks light.

Mine is 35/20 and I really cannot see any major difference like I had on my GL with privacy glass on the back side windows.

You're right, I can't really tell a difference between the front or back. :y

here in mn, since the max tint if pretty high, you see a fair number of cars with light-medium tint on the front doors and limo tint on the rears. I don't mind it on my SUV, but sedans with such obvious differences in the tint just don't look right to me. Yours looks very nice though!

Thanks... I am going to try and shoot a pic from inside as well as a few outside and see if the difference is noticeable.

Tint is very hard to capture in a picture, lots of things can have an effect on how it looks, here is mine with 25% all the way around and it looks darker than your 20%

go figure

and in this one it looks almost pitch black....

Yeah...sun angle has a lot to do with it. Also, processing of the image can effect it also... I strive for deep blacks on the paint finish which can tilt the windows apparent appearance.

Nice shots of a beautiful car...!

GateKeeper 04-24-2009 10:43 PM

Thanks, I like yours as well, just didn't want to go to another black car,,,,lol,,,,,I was close....

I have more pics, but was looking for ones that showed off the tint the best....

Cheers

len56 04-24-2009 11:01 PM

the black car is classy, and the white is p.i.m.p.

I'm doing white, but I love both. I think these are the only colors that really fit the car.

peabers 04-26-2009 09:27 AM

Just got my tint done at FX Auto in Markham. Formula One Pinnacle Series 35% front and rear.

Sorry but it has been raining so can't get any good sunlight pictures yet.

Looks great... hardly ever see a rainy day like that down here in the desert...:-)

Mr Enigma 04-26-2009 01:02 PM

Has anyone got pictures of a 50% tint all round on a black car that they would like to share?

cr1t1icalm4ss 04-26-2009 01:08 PM

Mine is limo (charcoal) all the way around, and also in the front window 6" strip. I never get bothered, but I do live in AZ. Its on a Steel Grey C, looks very nice.

flagman 04-27-2009 04:47 PM

Hey Peabers - 35% looks good - I have a white with black int. also and was thinking to go with 35 all around. Still shopping tint places. Are you happy with the work at FX? Did they remove any panels, trim, etc.? What was the price?

peabers 04-27-2009 05:06 PM

35% turned out to be a little darker than I would have preferred but it does match the pano roof very well. I was happy with the service at FX. Wayne was knowledgeable and on-time. There are still a few bubbles left and I am hoping that it will disappear in the next few days.

mis3 05-07-2009 12:59 PM

When they did the window tints for your car, did they install moleskin?

peabers 05-07-2009 01:16 PM

Not that I know of... they did have to take off the door panels because the spacing is so tight on the windows.

my tinter didn't need to remove the door panel.

and moleskin's not needed for the 204 as it already has the felt liner on the inside of the window unlike the 203.

There is no need to remove panels.........

inexperienced tinter !?

no panels were removed when my tint was done

then again my guys have over 15 years of experience in the tint business

Devastator187 05-07-2009 08:24 PM

I'm tinting mine tomorrow at 35% just the rears. No tinting in the front side for me - don't want to be hassled by cops. I will post pictures once installed.

LewFX 05-07-2009 08:32 PM

i loved my 15% in my accord, took a year before i got a fix it ticket, but well worth it

PatSC23 05-07-2009 10:47 PM

just had mine done this weekend @ 55% and i made the right choice for what I wanted...yea I know some people say going 50+ is a waste, but not in my opinion - its dark enough at night for me and on cloudy days and keeps enough sun out during the day -

i will post some pics this weekend -

2nice4me 05-08-2009 01:12 AM

I did mine in 50% all around, in BC we arent allowed to tint the front windows at all but it looks almost factory. Didn't want to go to dark nor did i want to have two different tint%.

I'm satified with the result

Just got mine done today. I went with 20% half back instead.

did you see the installer putting tints on your windows? did he cover the speaker grills before spraying water onto it?

I wasn't there - just drop off and left. From the looks, didn't seem like there were any water stains on the speakers. Either he did a really great job or he clean up pretty good afterwards.

MB_AMG 07-06-2009 07:38 PM

I have 15% all around on my Audi S4 and 18% all around on my C350 4Matic.

Sexymaru 07-08-2009 12:14 AM

my C350 is black w/ grey interior.

the moment i got 35% all around i regretted. 35% is not dark at all, should go for 15%.

Illusive 07-08-2009 12:24 AM

I did 15% on the back three windows, then the rear main windows were done in 28% for a gradient effect.
