Might be a Silly question here, but staring down as in looking down at you in a bad way??? Why would anyone look down at a person driving a MB. Im 24 BTW. I was debating between the 09 E, before the remodel design, and my fiance kept on saying "I dont know why you want to look old for. You are suppose to look good in your car and the E doesnt do that." That what she said to me at the dealer. I admire the the interior of the E, but the exterior is very subtle and plain. How many of your would choose the an O9" E class amg sport version over our C sport if you would to have the option over again.

Haha. Well. I'm rather average in terms of dressing up. And I live in a rather suburban area (at least for LA it is >_>). But it's right by Torrance/South Bay which is where I spend most of my time. Haha. And no. I'm not thug at all. None of the above mentioned.
It all started though, when I began driving my dad's LS430 as my first car. Lol. Seeing a little 16 year old come out of a car like that back then. I still kinda get the stares, but really, I don't care much. I'm more likely to think, "If you've got something to say, just say it. Don't just stand there and stare like an idiot." Or so I've come to convince myself to think. Haha.

Haha, your post reminds me of the American Idol Song that crazy old guys was singing. "Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, you actin' like a fool with your pants on the ground. Cap on sideways, pants on the ground..." lol. Anyway, no, I get the same looks, at 17 I leased my first car a - Infiniti g37 coupe... Then decided to go more conservative and now lease a c300 white on black sport 4matic. I get similar stares from people, I guess its more of a jealousy/think I am a spoiled kid. But the fact is outside of insurance on the car (which is a decent amount for a 19 year old) I 100% fully pay for my cars and work hard to drive them, so I get insulted by people who give me those looks.

But ultimately between the 2010 e-class or 2009 for that matter and the w204 (2008-2010) c class I would say for a man of your age, go with the c-class and get some goodies on it (pano roof, p2 xenon package, MMI) in a dark silver, black or white (sport of course, not lux). They don't look farty at all... I personally drive a 2009 white on black c300 4matic sport and I don't feel like its a farty car or get looks like you don't belong in that car at all. The new 2008 and newer c-class is much more youthful, go for it!
Also, another big factor for c-class over e-class was the sheer size. The c-class is small enough to zip in and out of parking lots and not bang up the car (epspecially my college parking lot at Hofstra...)

Coming out of the LS, the stares were probably from folks who wondered how you lost your thrill of driving so young!

48...When my youngest daughter (20) asked when she could get a Benz, I replied when she can afford the payment and insurance, she can buy one.
At my age, I've worked long and hard to be where I am now.

Age isn't relevant, who paid for isn't relevant. This is the internet, I don't believe or care what people say their car/financial situation is. Its all about how you feel about your situation, whether thats 18 and up to your eyes in debt or 40 in debt.
I think many of us probably really own and can afford our cars, c-classes or otherwise, but the interesting part is how we classify what we can afford. I think people use this as a platform to feel good about themselves, I'd like to know the debt to income ratios on here!

Well put...Hutch. My whole point was the judgment angle. Indeed we all have different beliefs on what "afford" means. Anyway... not trying to stir the pot too hard...just saying. BTW...howz the weather up there? I miss it pretty badly up there. Lived in Oak Harbor for 5 years,,,when I was active Duty. I'd really like to move back up there one day.

I find it interesting that many of the young guys on this thread feel that anytime an "older" person is looking at them and their car, they are thinking bad things. It may be more likely they are just admiring a nice car or maybe even a nice looking guy/girl.
Maybe the problem is they feel a little guilty about having something nicer than most at a young age and this is always in the back of their mind?? If you have it and worked for it, appreciate the fruits of your labor. If you have it given to you, appreciate that someone can do that for you.

"Older" person here...I look at Benzes, Bimmers, especially if a C is similar to mine. Even though I may just be enjoying the view, my kids, in their 20s, tell me my expression can still make them twitch. So, Millennials...chill and just smile back at a Boomer...you will win either way with that response!

I'm 26 and i used to think that benz were for older people but then MB came with the sport version of all of its cars and i really like it since the W203 sport version was really nice and nowadays if you compare the C350 amg and the C350 Elegance it's a lot of difference i used to own BMW's and then i got family and changed for a Q7 sport and now i'm in my C350 sport with some mods and i really love it it has sportiness but also has Class and it's very comfortable to drive compared to the BMW and here in Mexico we have awful roads.

Well, I would have to ask, why on earth would you buy an old model and body style e-class. The 2010 is $4k cheaper than the '09 list (though not as discounted); but you get to choose your color and equipment options. Secondly, the 2010 e-class is much more appealing for the younger crowd and the interior and exterior styling is "light years" ahead IMO.
Have you ever thought about the fact that some of us actually think the 2010 E-Class is a hideously ugly looking car? I sure as hell do. I would rather be in a 09 than a 10. But that's just personal preference.
You young kids really should get off the high pedestal, maybe the people looking at your car is just "LOOKING AT YOUR CAR". lol But that's just my 2 cents.

I dont get weird looks from middle aged people. I HAVE had a lot of older people compliment me on my car though.

It could be that, as he did not write:
" I am, like, 12"
maybe he really is from the generation after the Millennials!
We can only hope......
