High Pressure Car Wash

Took a trip this weekend and picked up a thousand bug explosions on the front of the car. I hate to leave bugs, bird crap, wet leaves, etc on the paint for any length of time but wouldn't be able to hand wash for a couple days. I went to the local DIY car wash and blasted everything off. As long as you stay at least about a foot away from the paint, is there any chance of doing any real damage to the paint?

you should be fine. The only problem with public pressure washers is sometimes they recycle the water, in which case, you're pretty much sand blasting your paint causing micro scratches. Not all pressure washers do this though, but some I know do.

grill bugs

The other thing you can do is put several coats of wax on the front and the bugs come off with less "blasting". I use Klasse AIO.

very true...I usually go over the forward facing parts and pieces a couple of times just for that reason.

An application of bug/tar/sap remover before powerwashing would make all that gunk come off cleanly and easily.

Powerwashing it generally fine for our cars, you just have to be careful on edges or seams of clear bra, and the brakes.

Pressure washing is fine as long as you are careful with the plastic parts & if you have Parktronic sensors on your bumpers don't blast directly on them. It does them no good at all.

In central Florida (and I believe across the lower Gulf), we have what are called "love bugs." They are jet black and swarm. The fluid in their bodies are acidic and will etch the paint down to bare metal if left on the car. I hope this is not what you hit - but getting any bugs off is important.

Careful on the selection of the 'wax.' Carnauba based products will not stand up to bug body enzymes and acids.

What works for me is I get those bug remover sprays and spray it before going into the car wash. I go to a car wash that offers to re-wash your car if you are not satisfied and tell them before going in that I have a lot of bugs on my car and would like to go through twice. They happily oblige and bugs are gone!
