Dubious claims on ebay for 45 HP gain
So there's only one option so far I've found for ECU tuning the C350, and it seems to be a hoax. The claims are rather dubious, but I was thinking someone here might have more information because all I've got is suspicion.

If only it were that simple. The claims are outrageous - Utter BS. The stock ECU tune is hell to improve on without other hardware mods. These things are a compromise - you gain somewhere & loose somewhere else. Most chips without hardware mods move power up the rev range, mess adversely with torque delivery & cause engine stumble under certain conditions such as very low IAT (Inlet Air Temp)
9 bucks
Don't do it!
If it looks too good to be true You finish the sentence

And end up blowing an expensive ECU or worse. Then who is going to pay?

For the record there are several companies providing ECU tunes for the C350. Our engine has been around for several years. RennTECH, Kleemann, MKB, Powerchip and probably a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head. Prices range start at $600 (powerchip) and go up from there.

I will never buy a second hand car that has been ECU tuned.
I trust the MB engineers have developed and tuned the engine for the best performance, reliability and long life.

They did, then someone after them gets their hands on the engine and de-tunes it to take into account all the retards who don't know how to take proper care of their car and engine before shipping it out of the factory. ECU tune just brings it back to what those engineers originally made this vehicle capable of.

Nevertheless 49 Hp is about 20% increase. No way Hosey. Whoever believes this has not the foggiest of what it takes to get this increment, and what it would take to change de car to 290+ HP and make it perform and last thus.
Besides, if 175 mph are not enough, blow 15 to 20 k more and prep it for racing, cause you do not want a street car. But get somebody who knows, not a bloke who ads on e-bay and just wants your money.
Cheers, JV

Absolutely - The standard tune is optimised for broad performance in differing condition & to provide longevity. People talk a lot of crap. I've watched a real guru try and tune one of these things in a state of the art dyno facility. It's hell to achieve any meaningful improvement without hardware changes. Benz have done a good, sensible job.

It's jose
For some reason people believe that not only can you get major power gains but also a gain in MPG, MB as with every other car company clearly detunes and lowers their MPG knowing they could get more from their cars.....
If you have supporting mods, tuning your car ON A DYNO can show some ok gains, but just slapping a random 1 size fits all chip into your car with the idea of seeing 20-30-40hp gains?
sigh.....

Yeah, I'm looking at some of the performance shops here in Germany.. is there anyone who has got their car to 175 without chip tuning? Mine stops accelerating at 135.. same problem when the dealership gave me a CLS550 to drive while waiting on my customs paperwork to clear.

If your car is a US version, that limit is set at 135. EURO models are governed at 155.

If you go through that seller's feedback, you will see a few comments on how they spent $9 for a 20 cent resistor, and some say it didn't make a difference in their cars.
For the rest, it's just a placebo effect.
As the saying goes, if it is too good to be true than it is.

I have heard the speed governor is set in the prohibited menu and can be removed if you have access to a Developer DAS/Xentry - good luck getting to someone who has that and will do it.
