And you believe this to be true? It's that American's are so addicted to litigation. They're trying to cover their a$$ to prevent being sued.
For reference, in my W203 handbook it says not to switch between "S" and "C" modes of the transmission while the car is in motion or it might cause "loss of control". This is total lawsuit-avoidance-BS.

My book says the same too (something about driving style changes). But be careful when you use 89 becuse unused fuel will get into the Cat and will catch on fire

Hot diggiddy! What would happen if we were talking seven-figure items...
MB is quite clear, specially in underdeveloped countries: If you are compelled to use low octane fuel, for lack of availability, use an octane booster additive such as Bardahl's. If this weren't available either, add ASAP or change to a higher octane gasoline after draining the tank, replacing the fuel filter, and purging the system.
Then again, there are cars that will soon be unloaded (replacement or lease expiration) so, who's gonna know? Right, nice guys...?

Joe - go to an underdeveloped country & they say no such thing. They are more interested in selling cars & Mercs last longer than almost any other vehicle in those markets - Ever been to a lot of third world countries?
