UMI (Universal Media Interface): Is this the best deal?
All the dealers here in Vancouver are quoting $1900 + install of 4 hours @ 120 per hour!

So $2666 after tax! but they will install one that I have sourced elsewhere.
Even at that price i'm wondering if its worth it

I really like it. The navigation is nice, I love having full control and display of my Ipod on the nav screen, but the best thing is being able to add a bunch of music to a USB thumb drive.
The original quoted price was $1700 for the unit and $400 for the installation.
The dealer matched the online wholesale price ( the same link you posted ) of $1350 for the unit and discounted the install $150 ( they had my car for 6 days ! ) for a grand total of $1660 ( they charged me $60 more than the original quote for some reason ).
Any questions, let me know...
Nick
If you have your dealer install the one from the link, you will get quite a good deal but will there be warranty issues?
The UMI itself has been worth it to me. The Nav is great and the number of media sources you can use with it are too.
My only complaint is that the volume on the IPOD/IPHONE interface doesn't match the other sources. You have to turn up the head unit volume to get an acceptable level and then remember to turn it back down if you change sources. This is the same problem the original MMI systems had but they can be fixed with an inline amp (I think at no cost). The UMI cannot.
I did talk to the dealer about the amp, but dfordham is correct, it does not work with the UMI. Also, it was not a "free" solution to the problem with the MMI - you do have to pay for the amp ( at least that's what this dealer said )
Hope that helps...

Which dealer in Chicago did you go to? I service my car from the dealer in Naperville or Hoffman Estates.
