2008 vs 2009: differences in oil change interval

Anyone knows why the oil change interval was reduced from 13k to 10k miles for 2009 model year?

Maybe because they though 13k was too long. I have no idea either.

They changed it on every Mercedes.

Now I think some AMGs or V12s might have always been 10,000 miles, so it also brought the cars in line across the brand with the same interval.

Speculation though is all I can really offer. Some would say so that dealers can make more money on services. Others might say that over time, perhaps the cars will have better longevity getting service and a check up without so many miles in between when you implement this across the entire fleet. etc. etc. Many possible reasons.

I never put much faith in the 13K interval. Even with my 08, I plan on a maximum of 10K/12 months.

Interesting. I wasn't aware of the change. I've been getting my oil changed about once a year at 10-10K miles. I noticed the engine seem to run a bit smoother after my last oil change so I might do it a little more frequently, maybe twice a year. :nix:

Good to know they made that change. I wonder if their "official" recommendation will change for the '08 model like mine.
