Hood sheet metal thin (easily dented)??

For gods sake just drop the hood from a height of ~50cm and it will close, without dents!
The thing is, I'm not sure if it was me. I did as you said, drop the hood from a short height. I remember when I got the car the dealer popped the hood and slammed it down hard so that might have been the time it got dented. It's hard to see (my car is white) so I probably wouldn't have noticed it back then.
