new problem arrised, mp3s *sometimes* won't play

I'm not sure why, but lately my cars been giving me an error trying to play mp3s, I thought maybe my compact flash card was going bad, so I tried another, same thing, then I said screw it, i'll burn mp3's to a disc, and it happened AGAIN. It tried to play each song, and eventually just says that there is no readable any files. Has anybody experienced this? Is there a solution? Could it be caused from my car sitting in the heat all day? This has never happened before, and now it happens every now and then and is VERY annoying.

150+ views and nobody has experienced this? I'll have to get the camera out and youtube exactly whats happening, it's very odd and completely random, it was working today, then i shut the car off for like 10 minutes to run in a store and get something, then I came back and mp3's wouldnt play again.

video of issue, mp3s were playing fine, i shut car off to pump gas, when I turned the car back on, this was happening...

This has been happening very often at random times. I am not touching nothing, it is just trying to play mp3s and failing. And eventually says no readable files. Anybody have any ideas on what I should go? Bring to dealer? Do I need a new comand?

Weird, bring it to the dealer.

Once in a great while (maybe a dozen times since I bought it new in '08) when I turn on the car it will say no readable files, but I've always been able to pull out my SDHC card out of my card reader and re-insert it to fix the problem. Never has it tried to play a song and given up and moved on to the next. Once or twice it has started back up in the wrong folder (instead of the one last used) and when I navigate the folders a lot of folders/songs are missing, but again removing my SDHC card are putting it back in has always worked. For me, I haven't thought it was the cars problem, but rather my PCMCIA card reader acting up.

Good luck, hope it's not something serious, but if so that's what the warranty is for I guess :y

also seems when mp3s dont wanna play, my phone calls over bluetooth don't want to have sound. the only reason im scared to bring it to the dealer is because I did a rear camera install, not sure if they'l try to just blame it on that if the comand is busted. any suggestions on what to do?

It's happened to my iPod a couple of times when it's really hot. All I do is reset it and it's good as new. I don't think this helps though.

I think im gonna unplug my rear camera and bring it in, hopefully they can reproduce the issue the day i bring it in

Funny, I have stumbled upon the same problem a few times this past week (using CF card) but I concluded it must have been due to the slightly hotter temperatures. It always happened when I had the car off, upon starting it (memory card on by default). Also, it only happened intermittently a few times for me so I didn't think much of it, just resolved it using the old 'Windows' solution - card out, card in, works fine.
Of course, if this starts happening EVERY time I start it, I'd bring it to the dealer, otherwise it is probably tolerable annoyance when its too hot.

I do realize this might be annoying (for me it would be) but perhaps you could try taking the card out next time you leave your car off, and take it with you, so that it is not left in the hot inside, see if you come across the issue...?
I'd think the reason for this issue is the higher temperature because I've used my CF card for a few months now, and I've only seen this issue when it got pretty hot here the last few days.

i've tried this, bringing the card in the house with me, it still happened ;(

Sorry to hear that, cbcharlie. Perhaps it is the card slot then? Again, play it out the following few days, if you continue to experience the issue consistently, bring it to the dealer?

MP3

Use a MAC format. You wont have this problem.
PC drives are known to do this.
Once you go MAC, you'll never go back..

pretty sure it's something else, because when mp3s dont work, neither does bluetooth, so i dont think a MAC will help with the bluetooth issues ;P

That in itself may warrant a visit to the dealer. I have never had issues with the bluetooth (yet), only the sporadic CF card issue which seems to have gone away (for now).
Please, don't forget to update us with the resolution if you decide to have the dealer check it out.
Good luck !:y

I will, I already unplugged my rear camera mod and hid the wires, i'm just waiting for a nice hot day to bring it in on, since it seems to mostly happen when its very hot outside.

cbcharlie 07-12-2010 06:55 PM

well i went to pick up my car because they 'claimed' everything was fine, they did a hard reset on the comand. so i pick it up, and immediately notice, MP3s DONT PLAY! Then I connected my phone up to the car again since they reset it, and confirmed bluetooth also didnt work, I made the guy come outside and look and he gave me back the keys to the loaner, saying "what the hell did they fix? they didnt fix anything" so they still have my car, hopefully we'll have a better resolution tomorrow. stay tuned!

rs1985 07-12-2010 11:50 PM

then explain why it won't work from mp3's on a CD as well? and cleaning it wouldn't make bluetooth work

Update...

Dealerships 1st Day with car = FAIL
Dealerships 2nd Day with car = FAIL
Dealerships 3rd Day with car = FAIL
Dealership will have the car tomorrow as well, lets see if Day 4 has a better outcome.

davezaristo 07-15-2010 05:31 AM

I have the same problem as well and on top of that, it made a high pitch noise and then the message no readable file appears. However, once I stop and restart the car, everything is back to normal. It happened about 3 times since my ownership and the car has about 14k miles...Please post an update and what your dealer found out and I will consider bringing it in if there is a fix for it..

Well I still don't have my car, I got a call today saying everything seemed fine, they played with it all day yesterday with no issues, so I go early around 3 while the bosses are still around, and what do you know, IT DON'T WORK. so I show my service guy, and he gets the foreman to come take a look, and what do you kno, they both say theres an issue!

So they assured me that when I pick my car up it WILL be fixed. We'll see, hopefully I have a car Monday or Tuesday. Stay tuned next week for the dramatic outcome!

cbcharlie 07-20-2010 06:01 PM

Well today is the 8th day without my car, got a phone call, "we need to order a new comand system, its backordered, it'll take a few weeks to get from germany, come pick your car up and we'll give you a call when it arrived", then about 2 minutes later I get another call, "we found one, it'll be here tomorrow" So hopefully all is well and I can have a working comand again tomorrow.

cbcharlie 07-21-2010 07:10 PM

Well, I brought the car in LAST Monday, Finally got it back today. "fan 1 in control unit has a malfunction" they replaced the entire unit and now all is fine, so it took a while, but finally, it's fixed.
