Chrome Bubbling on Bonnet Star Emblem

The chrome has fallen off in one small area showing the diecast material underneath. It is bubbling in other areas.

Has anyone else experienced this ?. I intend mentioning it to the dealer before the warranty expires.

What could be causing it ?. Surely MB has perfected this piece of equipment over the years.

MB doesn't make it; they buy it. Suppliers periodically have changes in process (either intended, to implement a cost savings, or unintended, when not in control) which can cause a quality spill. An unnamed well known manufacturer had to replace a lot of name badges when the chrome appearance on the surface began delaminating. A few weeks ago, we had to have the center woodgrain shifter bezel replaced on our E due to cracking in the clear finish. Again, not a new science, but a process failure, which the dealer said had been showing up in some quantity.

Prior to getting the C, I looked at several used CLKs and many of them also had cracked wood trim. Dealer told me it was due to "the heat".......lol
