You obviously have no idea how emission system works on modern cars..
Doesn't matter if it's MB or Honda, or Toyota, BMW, Ford for that matter..
They all have O2 sensors and EGR now days..

Remove the CATS will trigger CEL because O2 sensors will see same levels of emissions and ECU will think your CATS is not working properly and give you the CEL..

One way to fool the ECU is to get O2 sensor simulator and fool the ecu to think everything is working properly

Removing the secondary cats does not throw a code. I have done it...see my prior post.

Good idea to leave primary CATS untouched...
I wonder if anyone has installed high-flow CATS in the spot of OEM secondary CATS here..

You obvoiusly doesn't know the difference between completely take out the CATS (there are 4 total for our w204) and take only secondary CATS out..

I can't fault you, since it's pretty obvious the most valuable thing you own is the C you are driving and you probably don't have much experience w/ luxury cars...

So if all OP want is better sound, I would think remove secondary CATS and resonators will be sufficient..(with maybe 2-3HP gain)
However, if you really want to get it right and gain about 10HP, I would look into change all 4 CATS to state legal high-flow ones, then not only will you get the sound you want, (it will be the deep roaring type not the rice out Honda Civic type with no real bass), gain HP, and still compliance to state law and be environmental friendly..

Since when is RX considered a rice car?? I don't see many if not any of them rolling here in CA modded like a rice out Civic which I am sure your 2001 Civic must have been...lol

Anyway..the RX is for the wife, was looking at GLK, Q5 & MDX but decide to go w/ RX since it's not going to be my primary ride, so I just want something that's easy to take care..

BTW..how much did you sell that 2001 Civic LX for?? I hope you was able to get enough $$ to cover all the mods you did on your C300..lol

All kidding aside, you did good w/ your c300..like the black/white/carbon fiber look..

Have you been on a semen retention program and/or forgoing track days?

Somewhat curiously, given California’s oft-draconian pollution abatement measures, owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification. Note they’re not above extorting yet another in lieu tax.

Acceptable performance and air quality are not necessarily mutually exclusive. My lowly C consistently traps ~110 mph with its post-manifold OE exhaust system entirely intact. Most certainly complies with the spirit -if not the letter- of currently applicable legislation. They’ll always sound pretty much like any other farty V6.

I will never move to CA. Pretty soon they will mandate everyone to drive Smart cars.

In the Chicagoland area, visual inspections are non-existent. I filled the emissions place up with my noxious fumes while I idled like a Harley and they never batted an eye. No codes, no prob. Oh the wonders of a properly tuned vehicle.

I'm all for removing cats.

I'm hugely allergic to the dander and have trouble breathing when I get around them.

All said and done, but, can't we get some clips to actually hear what it sounds like?!! I've had an x-pipe and a Meisterschaft running on my 204 since the past 6-7 months. It sounds amazing. But I really wanted to get it to sound louder and more raw-ish. Can't find any HFCs. Was also planning on getting the exhaust header from Kleemann installed. So it's obvious that I'm highly confused. =( HELP!!

No SR pipes bud! Just a Magnaflow X-Pipe. I got the connectors from the stock exhaust to fit into this one. Got them welded on.

Haha! Thanks Alex! Glad you like it. And I know it's been a long time. The increasing competition in the market has been keeping us way too busy. But we've got a bright future ahead, there's a lot of stir regarding the SLK and CLS, 2011 will be a game changer. Hope your Benz is treating you well!
