Yeah u loose function from the steerung controll/ knob by cup holder, bluetooth and the top screen.
The top screen was used for storing my shades more then looking at for me and I never use the knob or steering control anyways. Well maybe the value on the steering wheel but that's it.
Changing the track from the steering was a hassle when u can just reach over and hit one button. DIY !

Wow - that is a LOT to give up in my opinion, but I am a "whatever works for you" kinda guy, so glad you like your new set up.
THANK YOU for the the great idea on finding the perfect spot for storing my shades though, now that should have been a post by itself...ha.

There was no fix for my 2008 c300.
I went to the dealer and told them to check my software if there was an update Cuzz my aux is GAY.
They told me there is no update and that they fixed the problem in the new c class.
Also I had 8k HID installed and it was flickering. I bought the correct kit CANBUS for the Mercedes. I did a lot of research and even told them there is an option in the ECU that they have to switch the XENON OPTION TO PRESENT if Ur c class doesn't come with xenon installed
They took my car and told me my car didn't need an update and that it's Becuzz the HID was installed incorrectly and was causing the clamps to vibrate.
I LOL and drove off.
I did more research and it was a faulty ballast.
Stealership is so LOL

I know the need for better sound is a definite... plus the need for external amps for the front doors it's like night and day(i used to run image dynamics all the way around in my audi with eclipse amps)... the stock unit even with the infinity speaker upgrade cant compare at all.. not only that the ipod intergration kit blows for the stock... the stock does look better for now but the amount of sound quality you get from a aftermarket radio is alot better then any stock radio can put out... hands down the alpine will blow all the stock units away... but if you wouldve went with a pioneer avic double din model it would,ve looked alot cleaner cause they look more stock looking and not so much out of place..

Custom sound had the harness and the radio adapter. I still had my Bluetooth function and there is a kit that you can get to put back function to the steering control
The only thing was that I had to run the power switch separately.
I am already looking around for a double din.
The one u listed above is nice and has a good price tag.
I like the 7" double din screen had it in my 350z and it was the shiet
I didn't go the DD direction on the C because the DD Dash kit was nowhere to be found.
I found the SIngle din kit and though hey I'll just do this for now and later upgrade to DD when I van get my hands on a DD dash kit.

by power switch are you talking about the ignition or the constant power??

Yes switch = ignition
If u look at the 2nd pic there is a thin red wire. That is the power switch which tell the unit to turn on. The fat yellow wire is the constant power. U have to run the switch wire to a cig lighter

yea you went way overboard with that.. hey at least it's turbo!! honestly thou maybe he had a bad choice with choosing a aftermarket deck but if he's like most audio fanatics then you know alpine is one of the best preamp outs on the market.. the only company to beat alpine is eclipse with the 24 bit burr brown units.. some people you just cant take the audiophile out the person.. mb shouldve made better audio components for the car... personally i think the ipod adapter and the whole audio system is trash honestly you cant tell me it's the best thing you ever heard... thats the only rant i have another then the cruise control being above the signal also now that i look at that riced out pic up above it kindof reminds me of this renntech build on the cover of this forum.. https://mbworld.org/glk/Renntech_and_Mercedes_Refresh_Pikes_Peak_GLK350.ph p

What's cool about this car is the roof scoops that channels air into the cabin cause he had probably did an AC delete just cause. 
Back on topic, OP, I understand your desire for better audio and yeah, the convenience of plugging in a USB stick is very nice. Personally, not for me as I'd want more muted look and would have saved up for DD as long run you'll end up spending more money by not doing it once right, but that's just me. At least the setup looks clean and I applaud your DIY nature.
Guys, lets not be overly crude here or start name calling. You don't like it, fine, state it in a civil way. This is a Mercedes forum, not a Bimmer forum

Azn optic. No matter what forum or what car u drive there is always bashing and name calling.
My 1st car was an 02 RSX and 2nd car was an 07 350Z now this w204 and in all the forums it's all the same
What I notice on the Mercedes forum is that a lot not all of people think there better than everyone and that we have to act in a certain way Cuzz we drive a Mercedes.
To me, it's just a nice fancy name brand car. I liked it that's why I bought one. But I still treat the Honda guys just the same not like oh my car is better. I still go to Honda/Acura meets. Well Cuzz my fiancé drive an 07 TL-s :-)
Don't get me wrong Bimmer Gus are worse.

Now I'm waiting for the IPAD 2 to get release this Friday :-)

I think for 250$ you could of easily bought the H/K speakers all around(maybe a little more then 250$) And then go down to radio shack to buy the "line out" cable (increases the omhz in the sound for a louder/cleaner sound) and that would of been much easier/cleaner look. Then you still have bluetooth, the clicker thingy, steering controls, and the screen. And theres no real need for pandora if your running sirius radio, cost me like 8$ a month for sirius. But to each his own :]
