also you dont have to change your rotors... rotors should be able to last ya over 100k miles i would think.. all the past cars i never changed the rotors and when i sold the audi it was at 130k and still rotors were still good..

I put them on three cars, did not change rotors on the two MBs...the third one already had some pedal pulsation due to rotor warpage, (not a Benz), so it got new rotors from Ate.

Hi everyone,

I was trying to find threads closer to my issue/concern, but I could not.

I own 2011 C300 4MATIC. Currently it has 53K miles, and I believe the rotors and the pads are original.

I started to feel a slight pulsation when I am breaking. The steering wheel shakes; not crazy, but enough to notice. The quicker I have to stop the stronger the pulsation. I noticed that the front rotors have some lines/grooves, see pictures.

My questions:
1. Is it worth reworking the rotors? If anyone has gone this route, what are the costs?
2. If rotors can/should be rework, what about existing pads? Should they be replaced or something can be done to fix this?
3. Should I just replace the rotors and pads? How much money should I be looking to spend?
4. What are your recommendations?

Replace them. You will find the front ones are pretty close to be worn out. The rears should last until the next pad change.

Go to ECS Tuning they have kits for just the fronts or all four wheels. Those rotors can't be turned they look like the grooves are to deep. It's easier to replace the rotors and pads, it's an hour to two hour job taking your time. Has the sensor gone off yet? I know when my front pads went the sensor went off and I got maybe another two hundred miles before they were toast.

Nope, the sensor has not gone off yet. As far as grooves - they are not that deep as it might look on pictures. If I go across them with my fingers, I barely feel them. What might be the cause of those lines/grooves?

Why don't you take the caliper apart and see if there is some material stuck to the pad. Then you can re-seat the pads and see if the lines go away. And give the rotors a quick wipe with some brake cleaner. The lines could just be glaze so maybe a re-seating of the pads might just do the trick.

A close up look at those rotors show a lot of wear. If they are worn away by 3mm or more they are toast. Spend a couple of hundred on new rotors and you cant go wrong

I just installed HAWK Street performance 5.0 on mine.. had them for 2 weeks.. Still very very little dust.. Seems to brake really well especially when they get hot !!!

My theory on why some of us get grooves on our rotors.. the Mercedes rotors (and some other aftermarket rotors) are "soft". The low dust brake pads are often made with hard material, that is why the "hard" pads are eating soft rotors.

Grooves aren't a good thing to have on our rotors.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with four disc brakes, I bought Stillen brand rotors (cross drilled) and pads. After 7,500 miles on them, the rotors are in excellent shape. The rotors (braking) surface looked so beautiful and flat. No grooves. That's because both are made for each other. The stopping distance with Stillen brakes are better than OEM.

I think Stillen makes some brake rotors and pads for W203, not sure about W204. You can check Stillen website to find out if they will fit your Mercedes. They were made in America. I understand that other brands (aftermarket) like Centric were made in China. I'm not too sure about PowerStop...I think they were made in China, too. Ugh.

My wife's W203 brake rotors have grooves. Someone installed aftermarket pads and they are terrible. I plan to replace everything by myself using Mercedes-only brand rotors and pads. I have a W204 with Mercedes-brand rotors and pads installed by Mercedes dealer in Escondido and surprisingly, I have near-ZERO brake dust on my wheels. I'm really happy with them!!

Are Brembo Break pads comparable to the OEM for c Class Merc. There is a huge price difference if we get them replaced with the authorized dealer VS Brembo....Any Suggestions...

I recently bought a set of Bendix Euro + pad for my MB W204. $55 ( $75 at supercheap) for a set of 4 fronts From Sparebox. The pad wear sensors for $2.50 each from repco.

There was only one sensor for the drivers side- I got it form Repco for $2.50. Spares box was over $20, Supercheap $7.50

The pads from spares box were $53 delivered ( Supercheap $75, Repco $135).

The kits comes with 4 spring clips and 4 bolts. Torque settings: caliper to steering knuckle 180nm, bolt for ant-rattle spring 30 nm, bolt of rbrake pad sensor to caliper 8nm

Easiest brake pad replacement I've ever done. 3 bolts two clips per wheel, one sensor on drivers side ONLY ie passenger wheel has no sensor.

Ive already done 200k km's and they perform ( braking distance, feel) at least as well as the genuine mercedes pads, NO squeels ( the merc pads did).

Interesting to see how they go for brake dust on the wheels- the genuine merc pads were terrible with that.

Oh yeah and Amoural break dust repellant works, for a while
