thats true, I just didnt want to waste time tearing the interior apart to get to the rear dome light.

there surely is a connection in the fuse box or something eh?

I wired up the puddle lights to the red light on the inside of the door that comes on when you open it.. It would have been cool to hook them to the dome light so they would come on when i unlocked the car, but I didn't feel like running wires through the headliner.

Pretty cool though overall, If anyone else is wondering how to find that wire, take off the cover in the door panel which reveals some sort of module with different colored connectors plugged in. The light in question is ran through the purple connector.

Test for operation by plugging in the puddle light wires to the back of the connector.

Heres a bad pic

Or we can run it to the fogs or the eye lids, so when we have the light setting to automatic, it will light up when we unlock the car?

I wish they had this for the 211's. I think it's a nice "upgrade" if you want to call it that.

OT: We have similar SN's.

I don't recall from the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure the dome lights turn on when you unlock the car. It would be much easier to run the wires to the dome light than the fogs/eyelids IMO.

it wouldnt make sense to use the foglights or the eyelids because even though they turn on when you unlock the car, they will remain on when you are driving around which is not OEM. The dome light is best since it also has a fade in/fade out function

but after when your on the road driving, if you turn on your dome lights, or have the lights on for the eyelids and the sidemarkers, would the puddle light activate and stay on until you turn one of those off? if the red lights on the door only turn on when the door is open(didn't check) then wouldn't that be the best place? unless it has a mechanism where the puddle light only turns on when you activate the alarm to open the door, or when you take out the keys..

yeah you wouldnt want them wired to the fogs or eyelids, then you'd be driving with them on all the time and aside from looking dumb, you might run into legality issues.

Having them only come on when the doors open up actually works pretty well.

but how often do you turn on your dome lights when you are driving? I still think it would be best. Perhaps the rear dome light.

Yeah, when I saw all the original posts about wiring into the interior lights I didn't think this was very smart at all. It only makes sense to me that this should wire into the door light! Thanks for finding this product and doing such a nice write-up, I'll probably pickup this mod as well. Are the silver ones a matching iridium?

According to the listing, it's 775 which would be iridium silver.

I dont see why it would make sense to wire it to the red door light. That light only turns on when you open the door...a puddle light is supposed to turn on before you get to the door so that you can see if there is a puddle in front of the door as you reach the handle to open it. The purpose of the light is no longer there if it only turns on after you open the door.

however, at night when it is dark out.. when you get out of your car they light up the ground beside the car quite well. I think this is the most beneficial time to have a light like this.. and in this case the lights will turn as soon as you open the door as well, so same thing.

Only difference is that they don't come on as you walk up.. whatever floats your boat really, if it's worth the extra work to wire them to the dome light then go for it. I don't like the thought of having an interior light switch that is supposed to turn on one thing, turn on another on the outside of the car, seems hokey.

Can you take the pictures of how they light up the ground? Thanks.

agreed about the light switches. But I find myself rarely needing to turn on the dome lights, since there are reading lights there as well.

Also true, either way it works. The door way is just a lot easier install.

Yeah I'll try to take some pics tonight.

OK, So I got mine half-way installed.. but I'm kinda scratching my head on how to run the wire into the door and how to remove the door panels. I got through the mirror part in a breeze, and I agree with the post that all that really matters is knowing how to take the mirror off, the rest is obvious from there.. If someone knows how to pull off the door panel so I can access the wiring, I'll take some more pics for the write-up.

you definitely don't need to pull the door panel off... just that 'rotary' shaped triangle piece....

-- or are you trying to get wires into the cabin?

either way.. door panel comes off with two Torx screws by the door pull and then just some snap pieces.. get your fingers in behind it and just pull, it'll pop off

Thumbs up

Pop off the tweeter and remove the sound insulation to reveal three star bolts. Unscrew these bolts and pull the door cover for the side-view mirror off, revealing the wire channel.

From the inside to outside, run a cable tie into the channel. Tape wire to the cable tie, and pull it back through. Replace the side-view mirror cover.

Unplug the (6) connector and lift the clip to slide off the connector lock.

Use a small flathead to push these pins in and back, so you can solder into the wire connector.

Tin the ends of the connector wires and the connectors using a very small amount of solder.

Hold the ends together and apply heat from the soldering iron to solder wire onto connector.

Push the pins forward again, and slide the connector lock back on.

Run it in reverse to reassemble.

e: OK I fail, someone tell me how to resize images in the post. There's a photo album here: http://imgur.com/a/q988z#9ctSK
