Not sure if this is the right place for this or if it's already been asked, but since the C250 will be a turbo'd 4 does this mean it will easily be chippable to squeeze out another 40-50hp like the Audi and BMW turbos? :confused:

Not yet chipable, because the ecu isnt easy to tune. But there are powerboxes , easy to instal in 20 minutes.

You could also just install a manual boost controller and raise the boost a couple of LBS and just let the ECU adjust.

Actually Brabus has a chip, 204-B25-00 BRABUS PowerXtra CGI B25
+ 26 hp, base C 250 CGI; 169 kW (230 hp), max. torque 350 Nm on their USA website, scroll to near the bottom of the catalog http://www.brabus.com/en/raster.php?...49&modell=3644 They are the experts, wouldn't trust anything else. |
The S version of that provides slightly better figures:

@lithium332. Hmmm... missed that one. Anyway truly AMAZING performance from a 1.8L I4, why didnt MB get 133 HP/L out of the 3.0L and 3.5L 272 engines? And HUGE gas mileage. I want a 466 HP twin-turbo 3.5L 2014 E that gets 30 MPG hwy.

Brabus is also a tuningbox, not chiptuning but à piggypack.

To roughly compare the turbos, find out what the compressor inlet bore diameters are. First thing is minimizing intake and exhaust pressure drops. I used a Dwyer 100mm H2O differential pressure gauge to find restrictions in the rx7 intake, and the oem air filter was fine, for example. There is a current thread about Renntech developing a power kit for the C250. Renntech-C250 . |
From a business perspective, I wonder why the price is so insane. Does this price actually reflect the R&D costs or are they just inflating the hell out of it? Assuming they inflate the price wildly, wouldn't they make far more profit selling it at a reasonable price and tripling their sales?

There should be plenty to see for gains. Keep in mind its a small turbo which spools low so it is going to run out of air up top but the gains in torque is what you'll feel and use around town. The limitations will ultimately be the cooling (both intake and coolant) and the fuel (measuring injector on-time and lambdas to see where they are running out). It doesn't have to be so expensive, no. The US players will start to get involved and still make hand over fist charging 500 to 900 bucks. Software is the bread and butter of tuning companies. Its much harder to make that kind of profit margin on hardware. Keep an eye on what BMS is doing for the c250 too. Their 335i stuff has a following.

i tried a RaceChip piggyback box.
It connects to the boost sensor and manipulates the readings. I drive a C180 CGI and was able to get +10HP and +10N Torque on the low setting on the dyno. Will probably play around with the settings bait more when i have time. |

C250 CGI is a twin turbo - one dealing with low engine / road speed boost and the other, larger one handling the higher rpm / road speed demands. The smaller turbo helps eliminate turbo lag.
My remapping exercise on the diesel engine was done by opening up the ECU. It works perfectly with improved mileage and stunning performance. Blows most gas engined Cs away (C63 and the like excepted of course!): zoom: |
