Stevedotmil. Being an Army guy I respect you and afraid of you at the same time. Oh the memories of Fort Benning. It amazes me the quality of people on this forum and how people many younger guys have busted their hump to be able to afford this car. Also, Ben Afflecks opening scene in boiler room has to be my hands down favorite in any sales movie.

I dont understand why some people are fixated on the fact that students and young people can own a c class. The accord, Camry, STi, Taurus, lancer Evo, camaro, mustang, Genesis etc, are all within $1000 of the c250 or c300. I say power to the youngsters that choose a Benz over the other non-luxury options out there.
In 05 my Passat wagon was 20k more then my c350 in '09..... Just sayin

I don't care but I can see where some would be annoyed, especially if they're the type to ghetto/ricer out their ride.

I think that the younger guys and gals for that matter have been underestimated for a while. There's nothing wrong with a college student who works hard and doesn't have any other bills other than a cell phone, owning a NEWER W204. I do doubt that they could buy one brand new unless they had a good chunk for a down payment. Leasing is another story. I think that it would be easier to lease one in that situation than buy. For those reasons. I still don't see anything wrong with it. I commend all of you who are able to do that. I made different choices and went on a different path. Family and providing for them was more important. Now that they are older I'm able to have a little more fun that's just for me. This is just how it ended up. If you are hating on the young dudes maybe you should look at the choices you made and try to make better ones and be thankful for what you have and that they are in a position to get to where they are in a timely fashion. Just my $.02.
Oh, and like it was said before, It's not the price of the car.....it's the money to keep it pristine where most people fall into a bind affording.

I think it's the fact that without mommy & or daddy money they wouldn't be here. Chances of a sprat or college student owning a 'Benz on their own is slim to none.

Yes i agree some young people on here may have got there car from there parents but there are quite a few who havent. just bc its an MB doesn't mean its unachievable for people under 22. STI or EVO X-mr is about the same if not more (depending on options) than a c350.

A new car is a very poor investment....lots of depreciation.
The sensible young would be saving for a rainy day, an education a house or their retirement.
Old dad!! ha ha !!

Leasing also makes it MUCH easier to afford driving luxury cars. My first car was a 2008 G37 coupe (leased it the DAY it came out) and now I have a 2009 c300 4matic that I purchased NEW, because I determined leasing was too costly. I was 17 when I leased the G37, and 19 when I bought the c300.
The youth are being EXTREMELY underestimated as far as their ability to afford things. And I think that Mercedes' creation of Generation Benz shows that they are starting to discover this trend. And that we form our buying patterns at a very young age.
The fact is, I still live at home and have no rent or mortgage payment, rarely have to pay for food (if I choose to eat out) and only have to pay for my car, insurance, cellphone and credit card bills. So even if my salary is 1/3rd an older person's our disposable income is relatively similar, as mortgage and other bills associated with living alone or as a head of a household (utilities, house insurance, property tax, etc) takes a large chunk out of their salary.
So please, don't just assume that younger people who have nice cars or expensive things have their parents pay for everything. It is in insult to people like me (and probably many others, as it appears, on the forum) who work really hard for what they have and are relatively independent.
As far as the c-class being only a few thousand more than other "cheaper cars". This is true, if you FULLY equip those vehicles (genesis coupe, camry, etc). But the fact is, most of those vehicles are a good 7-10k cheaper than a c-class. However, something can be said that a c-class has more standard features and is a better "value" than the other vehicles, which I realized, and which is why I now own a w204!

I think the problem is the word afford has different definitions... I am 25... an accountant... I own my car outright and love it... and I own a house (obviously I have a mortgage). I deem myself to be responsible with my money and the financial choices I make, however everyone has the ability to make their own decisions. I rather own a home than a car, hey that's me.
At 17 its fun to have a cool car... just like its fun at 40... lets all just be happy

LOADED 08' C350 & 14' GLK-350 Diamond White (P1, MM, AMG Pkg, Ln Trkng, Htd Sts, Keylss Go)
I bought my own c350 brand new in 2008 on my own dime... sold my gsx-r750 for the down payment. payed it off about a year ago, again, by myself. oh and I was 19 at the time of purchase.

bought my 2008 C350 brand new back in 2007 when the new w204 design just came out, was 22 years old back then and had the down payment from working a year after college... didn't use a dime of anybodys money but my own....
paid the car off in full in 2009
Should I have saved that money for my first house? Not during the housing bubble... I smartly realized housing was ridiculous overpriced in So-Cal and chose to wait it out while cruising in my new ride...
and yes, i made the same decision... why buy a loaded accord for 30K+ when I can buy a loaded MB for 10k more??
