35% all around.
Anyone in the NY/Long Island area, check out "The Tint Shop" in Glen Clove. Joe is awesome.

Now for 18's

jctevere 01-08-2012 02:20 AM

Nope, never heard of him, my "guy" near my house no longer does automotive tinting anymore, so I am looking for a new guy. He used to hook me up, $150 for tinting all around. I'm looking to get 35% again on my C250 Coupe, don't care much for the film quality or warranty since its only a lease and going back in 2 years anyway. Care to shoot me a PM with his number or details?

EDIT: Heck, today is my lucky day. Just went to his site and found a coupon for $120 to tint a "2-door car". Here's to hoping that the "*" clause where they can deny the coupon price on certain cars doesn't include the "mercedes premium" I know we are all too familiar with...

Double Edit: After finding out exactly where they are located, I passed this shop all the time. My boss has a house right up the road on Laurel Drive that I always had to go to. Hopefully I can drop the car off and do a few errands up there while its getting done. Do you know if you have to leave the car with him all day, or can you drop it off and wait like 2 hours and come back?

illlojik 01-08-2012 02:45 AM

I heard of him from a lot of the Bimmer guys when I had my e90. He does a lot of German and lux cars. Real professional guy. Tell him you got referred from the e90post forums and he'll take off $20. 190 for sedans, he did mine for 170 and I know the coupe is less. He did my car in about an hour. You can drop it off if you want but it shouldn't take long if you go early during the week day.
If you heard of MAC (Martino Auto Concepts), they outsource to him.

Nah, didn't want to have to purchase a whole new steering column just to get the lights to work (cost). Plus I personally think this one fits the aesthetics of my model better.
Then there's the issue of the airbag working properly for my model car. (safety, insurance)

I'm crazy for not wanting what You like? Look up the details yourself. Or not.

What do you mean by the "grandma" steering wheel?

The stock wheel is HUGE compared to other cars I've driven. It reminds me of the old school caddies, or a school bus. A girlfirend of mine called it the grandma wheel, so I laughed and had that stuck in my head.

I see. The new wheel with the flat bottom looks much better...

Beautiful Ride! Congrats!

illlojik 01-10-2012 07:45 PM

Thank you. Now I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide what wheels to get (18's) and what goes well with that color.

tint

dumb question probably - dealers don't do tinting do they? no such thing as an "approved" way of tinting a MB presumably. Going to get ours tinted soon as it does keep a whole lot of heat out in summer.

Never bothered to check. Even if they did, I'm sure it would be highway rapery.
Besides, they'd probably outsource the job anyway so might as well go directly to a tint specialist.

Speaking of outsourcing, went in to get a small tear in my driver's seat repaired, I was told they have to keep the car overnight because they have to wait on "the leather guy" When I asked who this guy is, they got tight lipped. Told them I'll be back when they have a loaner.

Benz day!

Thanks, same to you.

Most dealers here in nyc outsource. For example, Nissan dealer wanted 450 for 35% tints all around (except windshield) asked the tint guy on my own, he said 250! I would not do tints at a dealership.

oswiff 01-10-2012 11:55 PM

FWIW MB Manhattan is $350 for 2 rear sides and the back windshield. An outside someone comes to the dealer and does it there, your car doesn't leave.

Tint looks great. Have any more pics of the tint to share?

Looks awesome. Didn't realize there was so many long island people, lets get some meets going! I've heard of the tint shop. I use to work in Great Neck for 5 years, now I live out east exit 63 on the LIE. Was in Oyster Bay / Lloyd Harbor tonight....I am literally all over long island everyday.

I don't mind the stock steering wheel. It seems sporty to me.

However, your steering wheel looks 5x better! I also agree with you that it's more appropriate to get the wheel from the pre-facelift to match the rest of the interior.

Did you do it all yourself? Was it hard?

Funny that I got kind of used to the stock wheel by the time the new one came.
Yeah, did the install myself, it was pretty straight forward. The only part that gave me trouble was aligning the wheel to be straight. I was off by a few notches. I was under the impression that the notches inside automatically lined up and = straight wheel. I was so wrong. Go figure. All in all, about an hour total of my time for pure sexiness.
