C350:At 60 000Km I request them to change oil, they thought about it and decided to do it.

kevink2 01-19-2012 10:58 AM

I'd just make sure that they changed the TC oil too, by way of invoice, total oil capacity, and amount of oil used/charged for.

I have a question about the transmission fluid filter. According to johnand's DIY, he listed the part number for the filter as 2212770198. The only filter I could find on RMEuropean has a part number with 2212770195. I assume that both numbers will work, but I just wanted to double check. Also has anyone tried the aftermarket filter vs. the genuine MB filter which costs twice as much? I know the concept of "you get what you pay for" but I also hear that most filters will do the same job regardless of manufacturer (aside from K&N which uses cotton vs. paper).

Glyn M Ruck 03-18-2012 01:36 PM

Hmm! John has listed the latest filter for the new pan & white fill tube. I don't know which pan & fill tube your car has. - likely the latest by 2008. I would try to get the latest filter but I'm 99% sure they are interchangeable. I've never seen a warning to the contrary.

Domm 03-18-2012 11:00 PM

Alright. I'll look into which pan I have as soon as I get a chance to look under my car. Thanks for the info.

THE MILLION $ QUESTION

Are there any EARLY symptoms or signs that 4Matic owners can report just before their transfer case/tranny failed? Is their anything they have in common with each other? What should we be looking for, such as a low hum (or whine) when silently cruising?

PS: Time to think about unloading our GLK if this is a REAL concern. We're keeping our fingers crossed with our brand new 2012 C300 4Matic.

snowmuch 11-15-2012 10:34 PM

My stealership is charging me $400 to do the TC fluid change...

REVTO9 11-16-2012 11:12 PM

It will start with a quiet whine... almost like the blower motor is on but it actually is not. Then it progresses from that point to get to a louder whine.

Mine failed on 2009 C350, 75000Km (I've owned the car from day 1, it has not been abused or driven on the edge at all). Started with humming noise, it slowly got louder... I couldn't hear anything at speeds bellow 50Km/h then the noise would start and frequency would increase with speed increase. Took it in and shop manager took me out for test drive. He sped up to 75Km/h and shifted in neutral, noise was still there, he right away said "transfer case"! This whole test lasted less than 2 minutes... To me it sounds like a problem he has seen a few times :eek::eek: I was lucky it failed just 2 months prior to warranty expiring... Time to unload 4matic and settle for std RWD...

I have a 2008 c300 Sport 4matic with 79k miles. I'm due for the transmission service. I logged onto my dealerships webpage and navigated to their service page ( http://www.mercedesofannarbor.com/se...tment-form.htm ). After entering my vehicles information their price listed for a "Complete flush - and refill" of transmission fluid is somewhere around $220. I have read many quotes between $400-$500 for this service. This service mentions nothing about a filter change. Would Mercedes really flush the fluid and not change the filter? Should I be wary of the "cheap" $220 price? I'm worried this could be the dreaded half-assed job I've read many drivers get.

I've contacted a local independent shop (whom has a god reputation) and they quoted me $441 (and I specifically asked about the torque convertor).

Clearly the dealership's $220 seems too good to be true. Another question: Would it be wrong to schedule the dealership service at $220 and if afterwards find they only replaced less than 9 qts of fluid demand they do the job right at no extra cost? After all their service website clearly states "Complete flush" for $220. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Troy

i purchased the new oil and filter and plugs from the dealer with employee discount for $141.00, it could be possible if the dealer is just eating some of the labor cost as a special.

E500 transmission

E500 valve body?
I have a 2005 e500 with 63000 miles, and have been reading much about the transmission issues. I have had two adaptations and still experience what is at times a hard shift into and out lower gears. The problem is more prevalent when the vehicle is "cold". I have a couple questions:
1) what could be other (hopefully less costly) issue?
2) i have heard that mbusa may help if you have less than 100k. if I do need a valve body and have less than 100k miles how do I contact mbusa to ask for assistance?
3) my vehicle hasn't gone into to limp mode, but can any major issues form with not having a 100% valve body (if that is what it is)?

Also, I have also read you MUST have a full transmission service. I am not certain if mine has ever had one. Would this be recommended? What is generally involved and a price point? I have also read that it is not advised to have what I can term a "forced flush". Is there any other kind?

Thank you!

Thanks for such a great forum everybody. Decided to do this myself following Johnand's instructions. I added pictures, I hope they help someone: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...c300-pics.html

:nix:NEED ADVICE ASAP.
2008 C300 4 matic Sport 87,000
Noise sounded like a whine, took in thinking might be tires, NO Transmission needs replaced. Called today and informed me my extended warranty run out in Nov. ;-( $7,000 + repair. There was another car in service SAME Issue! I thought I had 100,000 warranty but apparently hit time before miles. I asked for a Good Will . any suggestion?? also is there not a
malfunction/warning mes-sages? I have ALL service done at dealership last service Mid Oct. Problem caused by bad part, caused grinding and there was metal in fluid.

Glyn M Ruck 03-01-2013 01:46 PM

Sounds like a Torque Converter bearing failure. If you can't get some goodwill assistance from MBUSA you are in the can. I would contact them & be nice to them.

wendyrezvani 03-01-2013 02:07 PM

Yes, I have been Nice! Is this something common or something that shouldn't of failed.. I do not know much about this. They rear of transmission and needed new one.

Draz 03-01-2013 06:39 PM

I think it's your transfer case (4-matic)... Just like mine... Same symptoms... Roughly same mileage....

Glyn M Ruck 03-01-2013 11:14 PM

Good point. Does it whine if you just rev the engine? If so it's TC. If only while the vehicle is moving then it's likely transfer case.

Good luck!

wendyrezvani 03-06-2013 10:33 PM

All I know is they said I needed new transmission and it could not be rebuilt. Update: Dealership agreed to reduce repair bill $3,000....I know that is better then nothing but I still dont feel like is right. Pay $50,000 for a car I would like to think it would be built to last longer then 87,000..just sayn
2008 C-300 Sport 4matic fully loaded 87,000 and with repair offered me $15,000 trade and without repair $8,000. I will have repaired and explore my options.

gyess 09-29-2013 04:51 PM

What would it take for this issue to become a recall?

romeo291 11-04-2013 01:55 PM

I just did this service at 83K miles, and it did wonders for the ride quality of my car. The car is so much smoother now. The instructions posted were not very accurate but helpful enough for us to figure out what to do. I would highly recommend this service for anybody with more than 80K miles. I have a 2009 C300, and I went with the Amsoil transmission fluid.
