Indicator lamp failure error and burnt connector
For a few days I've been getting a "Rear right indicator lamp failed" error in my car after a few minutes of driving. The funny thing is that the rear indicator lamps are LED (the original ones by MB). Even after the error came up the indicator carried on working fine so I was baffled. Yesterday I had a look to see if I could see something wrong. To my horror the earth connector had melted within the connector block to the bulb assembly damaging the connector block and the contact within the bulb assembly!! I only had one day to sort this out as I'm driving to Geneva tomorrow to see the motor show and unsurprisingly the dealership did not have the required spares. Fortunately I've been able to carry out a temporary repair (see pics). After I repaired the right cluster I decided to look at the left one and I could see that the connector also had signs of overheating, so I made the same repair. In the first and second pics you can see the burnt right connector, the third pic is the left connector showing signs of overheating, the fourth and fifth show the temporary repair which basically involved connecting a cable direct to the earth conductor within the bulb assembly by drilling and securing with a bolt and then connecting it directly to the earth cable within the harness using a connector. Everything is working fine now.
There is an obvious question as to the quality of the connectors in the bulb assembly I would recommend you all to check out the connectors in your car and have it fixed before it melts the connector and the bulb assembly as it did mine.

I had the same issue in my car and they said that the connector melted
(right rear and I don't have LED's) and that it was made of plastic. I asked them if they'd seen this type of thing before and no kidding the guy actually said, we haven't really seen an 08 with over 100K miles on it yet, so you are the first. $350 some odd dollars later, it was fixed.
