Help please: Where's the negative battery terminal?
 

Hi everyone. My Wife's Infiniti died again and I think it's the battery. I got out the cables and opened up both cars and I only see the red positive terminal on the Mercedes. Is there a special seperate place for the negative? Am I not seeing it?

It's in the glove box...in the owner's manual..."Practical Hints" section...look for battery. There is a detailed diagram which is best seen rather than try to explain, but the connections are in the engine compartment on the same side.

If one is not capable of simple basics as jumping one should call the respective roadside assistance. Its easier and most likely faster than posting on a forum and having to interpret instructions, guidance given.

Or get your friendly neighbor to help.

Benz USA even takes the trouble to make them available electronically. You can read them on your phone, tablet, Kindle, whatever if it is no longer "cool" to read a book.

It was highlighted in a recent Automotive brand survey in SA. Benz came out top BTW with Honda 2nd & Audi 3rd across all categories including satisfaction & repurchese of the brand. But it is quite evident that today's youth don't have any interest in the car's mechanical attributes & features in the way racing mad former generations did where we knew our cars inside out. To the modern generation it must look cool, be the right colour, be perceived as high performance & have all the geek attachments & they are happy.

If they fell over a piston they would say "WTF is that"

I know many people that in 5 years of ownership don't even know what features the car has apart from Bluetooth connectivity!

Thanks to the posters who actually responded to help. I was stuck out without the manual. I did borrow a phone to post this and I was searching on an iPhone and wasn't returning anything useful. I was trying to boost someone else's car in an emergency with little Kids waiting around in the winter cold.

I have a C300 lease. This car is as basic and boring as they come. I don't touch and I don't care to learn about it because it's a simple reliable and warrantied way to get to work. My previous attention was towards a 400 hp/400 pound feet of torque Stage 3 B5 S4 that I've done lots of work on myself (this was not the most reliable car Audi has ever made) and I always had computers hooked to it and running logs and doing configuration fixes. I carried more spare parts in the trunk than most Japanese dealerships.

People should keep their comments and insight to themselves until you seek to understand more.

Exactly my point, why can't people just answer simple questions or direct them to the right thread or info. People on forums seem to act all mighty and know it all, instead of just be simple about it and help a fellow member, or enthusiast. Love the audi, drive a b6 S4 myself.

How is the gas on that V8 in your S4? I spent way too much on gas for the Audi. I needed to fill up on 94 octane because of the program I was running (I had the on the fly switchable programs for Valet, stock, 91 and 93) and I was getting atrocious mileage. I remember one year, I calculated my gas expenditure was over $12,000.

Not bad for an v8. 14-15city 19-21hwy. APR tune. Your B5 would kill my S4 probably. Not much can be done to the B6 S4 unless your Supercharge it..and I still think it's not that good. For the cost of the supercharger I expect more performance. My prior project before the Audi was a Subaru... stage 4... now that had balls and money to performance was pretty even.
