TPMS Question: 2008 TP sensors in a 2011?

i have searched the forum but did not find the SPECIFIC answer to my question...

I have a 2011..... I purchased some used 2008 18 inch AMG rims that have the 2008 TP sensors on them (part number A0045429818).

Will these TP sensors work with the TPMS in my 2011?

I am guessing that they will....... but I will lose the actual tire pressure read out of each tire on my cluster.

Can anyone please confirm.

THanks
Charles

The individual reading from the TPMS is from the unit in the car. The sensor inside the tire just measures the pressure and relays the info, so you would not lose the individual readings. As for the sensors themselves, as long as it is 433mhz they should be fine. Are the AMG rims from a w204 also? If so, then you should be fine.

Thanks for your reply...

Good to know....

The rims are from a w204... c63...

I actually just got the tires and rims installed now... but one of the sensors was actually broken in half.

The cluster reads... TPMS inoperative.... Ordered a new sensor so hopefully this should resolve the issue....

thanks

That model number will not work in a 2011

If its a OEM sensor form a 2008 it will work. I run my 2008 tpms in my 2011 right now actually, psi readings are in cluster, not on tpms. they changed the part # and color of sensor but it does the same thing......

Weird I have some that have that model number and no go for me

Can you check the part number, EPC does not recognise this number.

Yes- when I looked up the part number it also did not come up. On another w204 tpms post on here people had purchased the sensors on eBay...

I believe these were the sensors on the c class MY 2008 and 2009

So it seems we have some mixed information on this... I had a 2009 and the TPMS would never tell the individual tire pressure per tire as the 2011 c-class we had did. Now I have a 2012 and it does tell me the tire pressure of each tire (like the 2011 did).

So what I'm trying to find out is if the TPMS system itself is the same across all those years, but that the system used in the 2008-2010 C-Class never transmitted the individual tire pressure of each tire to the screen, just gave an error if it was low.

If it is the same, that would be great, since I have a set of rims I had on my w204 I would like to use on my C204! :zoom:

EDIT: After doing a quick google search, it seems that any 433MHz TPMS will work. I guess that the 2008-2009 TPMS just never showed you the individual tire pressure, but was able to know it (otherwise how would it know if it was low?)...

The TPMS system is different from 2008 vs 2010. I was talking to a tech yesterday at the dealership. I was told that as long the sensors are 433MHz they will work with the system.

That's correct. Although my 2011 is my first benz, from what I've read on here the pre 11's didn't display the psi per tire, just indicated when it got low. The sensors just relay the pressure though and will work with both systems accordingly.
