The one time I don't park in the boondocks
As a friend and I are walking back to my car last Sat, I see this lady getting out of her Toyota Avalon parked next to my car. I say to my friend "That lady has that door pretty damn wide. There better not be any dings on my door."
We get to my car, sure enough I see this rudeness
Right to the metal, plus there's a vertical ding.
I grabbed the lady and showed her the damage, demanded her license and insurance. She claimed she didn't have insurance on her and that the car wasn't hers. (Should've called the cops, but honestly chances of them showing up for a door ding are next to nill.)
She admitted fault and said she'd pay....
Fast forward a couple days later, of course they don't want to pay unless I bring it to thier mechanic who's a brother of hers or something. I expressed repeatedly that I'm not leaving my car with any rag tag shop that I don't trust and they can pay the shop of my choosing directly. Nope, They think the quoted $400 is too much to repaint the door. When I demanded insurance the guy wants to "meet up" to give me the info even for just the NAME of his insurance carrier. I said screw it and called my insurance for them to do the legwork of finding out the insurance. I gave the the copy of the lady's license and registration. Pics, phone number, witness phone numbers. Hopefully This will get me somewhere.

This hits home as I just had this happen not 24 hours after taking my gorgeous C250 home...luckily there was no paint damage and the guy at work popped it out in about 10 minutes for the cost of lunch
At least you got the person's info, that the crucial part.

Yeah. The part that pissed me off was when they were refusing to pay because "$400. Oh it's only a little scratch"
Little? B*tch It wasn't there before your fat a$$ wife carved into my door. Cost of repair is besides the point. Now it'll cost the idiots more than that.

Ouch that stinks. If I were you, take them up on Paintless Dent Removal, it will probably only be $75-150 for that, and at least there will be no dents. Then try scratch-x to improve the appearance of the paint. Then you can always just have it painted or touched up, depending on what you want...
This happens though, I ususaly park by myself too, but apparently, the one time I didn't, someone opened their door into mine. Or at least, says the small dent in my brand new 2012 C250 coupe driver door that is consistent with this action. At least there is no paint damage though! PHEW!

Reminds me of then time my cousin watched as a woman emptied her shopping cart and let it roll towards his new car. She went into another store and my cousin placed the cart on the roof of her car. I feel your pain.

Op hope it all works out in the end. I always park far far away but always attract cars who want to park next to me instead of the other empty spaces. When I was 16 right before I got my Mercedes I was in a fast food parking lot eating with a friend and a really young kid was getting into the suv next to me threw the door open into the back of my infiniti. I then enraged get out rip open the passenger door of the suv (mom was is the drivers seat already) I then ask what are you going to do about the scratch and dent. She then says nothing so I spout every cuss word in the book and tell her I will call the cops then. She gets upset and tries to backup with me still standing there with the door open. So I wrote her plate down and got out of the way and filed hit and run charges I never did fix my car it was no show queen but I do know she got a huge fine so I am happy

Lots of the time you just dont have the option to park way out in the booneys. So I simple find other nice cars that have a little pride in there ride and park next to them.

Lots of disrespectful jackazzes out there. I remember when I drove a Maxima, seeing this lady at the Supermarket purposely push her empty cart towards my car. Again, I was lucky enought to be a witness. I screamed out "HEY What The F***!!!" She got all startled, yelled out.."Oh God I'm sorry", jumped in her car and sped away. Thankfully there was no damage then. But damn.

Just recently last week had my car parked in the parking lot came back and there was a scratch on my door driver side rear door. Some body was coming out or going in and hit the car but thank god for the uber thick door metal on the w203 it didn't dent, just chipped the paint but it will cost me $999 to get it properly done, they have to do all the belending and just a little work on the door to make sure it's super smooth again. Your lucky you got who did damage to your car, for me it was too late. I wish you luck with that I'm feeling the same pain right now and it pisses me off.
Make sure you get a proper quote I believe it should be a bit more than $400 they would have to repaint that door and if its the passenger front door then probably the other door or fender to blend it in make sure you get it done right.
Why my quote was so much is because they have to remove the trim the door handle, door moulding. For me it was for two doors and the rear fender. So make sure whoever you get the quote from does the job right you don't want them to leave the handle on when painting cause you'll regret it about a year down the road when your clear coat starts flaking from the handle onwards.
If she is paying get it done perfect. Goodluck!

I have a Chevy Tahoe for general duty... The CLS gets parked with the valet. I don't do door dings.
If you claim it on your insurance, your insurance company WILL pursue this lady. That's what they do.

Caught a county police officer slamming his door into my car which did similar if not worse damage. When I asked for his insurance card and ID as to exchange information, he laughed and zoomed off. As he was leaving the scene of an accident I instantly copied his name, (from memory) Lic. tag #, cruiser I.D. number along with the date, time and exact location of the incident. I called the local police station and reported the incident not forgetting to get the names of the officers who took the report. Even though they said they would send a car by to take my statement, they never did. Long story short, I finally was able to drag his *** in front of a judge who ordered him to compensate me in full for the repairs, and pay all legal fees and costs which amounted to a whopping $5,900.00... his downfall? Subpoenaed GPS and other records placed his car right next to mine at the exact time and place along with traces of my paint all over his cruisers door (which was still bent from the hit. He didn't care to clean it off. Guess he thought no one would pursue him. He thought wrong! (Funny note: Somehow the producers of Judge Brown found out about my case and called to ask if I would try the case on TV... I declined.)
