On my 2009 P1 car with standard audio system and small screen, when I get an incoming call from someone in the car's phone book, the name is shown on the screen. Is this to what you are referring? If the call is from someone not in the car's phone book, being in the iPhone's contact list does not result in the name being shown on the car's screen.

Oh, that's actually better than I thought.

I thought there would be no call notice at all. Does the number show if the contact is not inside the car phone book? It is a little unfortunate that the car won't download the phone contact list automatically, but I can live without it. You really would expect Mercedes to have this kind of thing ASAP since it is a luxury option. Makes me kind of sad that my Hyundai can do this, but not my German engineered Merc

I know the 2012 models can do this, but that seems really late for a company that seems to have invented everything that is luxurious in cars.

My 2009 has this as well as footwell lighting and a little light under the rearview mirror that shines down on the gear shift.

Yes, the number shows if the call comes from someone not in the car's phone book, but, no name.

Then your 2009 was different than my parents'. They have/had footwell lighting and lighting behind the interior door *handles* but NOT the door *pulls* (the grab handle cut out of the armrest).

It downloads the contacts automatically on mine....

Yeah, you have the 2012. The 2011 models and below don't. I just thought that was surprising since my 2010 Hyundai will do this automatically as well. For a car company that built its name on luxury, it seems odd that they're so late to the party.

Ah, I see. I was thinking of the door handles. I see where you are talking about now. That must look pretty nice!

It does, actually. It was such a pleasant surprise, since I hadn't known that they had given the car ambient interior lighting. =)

My parents had a 2008 and a 2009. While the downloading isn't automatic, my vague recollection was that it was still pretty easy, once you figured out how to do it.

It's not surprising at all, actually. For at least the past 20-30 yrs, MB has rarely been at the forefront of consumer electronics that are non-essential to the actual task of driving. They were still using tape decks when other luxury brands were offering CD-changers and our 1990 300E had a manual driver's side mirror (and that model didn't get replaced until MY 1996....).

Do your parents still have those cars? Did they have any major problems with it?

They still have the 2nd C300 (they're both leased), which they're getting rid of early next year (and likely buying a cheaper car outright for a replacement).

I think they will have had each car for about 27 months or so? AFAIK, no major problems.
