C350 with X-pipe and Quad Exhaust Sound Clip

I couldn't find any sound clips of a c350 with resonator delete, X-pipe, stock mufflers, and quad exhaust setup so I made this using a semi-pro G Track microphone. This was shot in my underground garage, so there a bit more echo than normal.

Nice clip :y Just wondering, where in LA did you go to have your quad tips done? A friend of mine is interested in getting some exhaust work of his own done and yelp reviews havent been helpful lol.

Sure no problem. I've taken my previous E350 and my current C350 to Joe's Mufflers on La Brea and San Vicente. He did my X-pipe and my quad tip setup. Just ask for Joe and mention my name. He knows me pretty well and should give your friend a good deal. Here is his shop on Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/joes-muffler...ks-los-angeles

Sounds good, any clips of you taking off or driving by? I assume you swapped the resonators with an x-pipe? If you don't mind me asking, how much was it? Any drone?

I don't have any clips at the moment, but I will try and get my buddy to take a few shots. Yes I did a resonator delete and swapped in the x-pipe. I got the x-pipe on Amazon for around $65 and the muffler shop charged me around $70 for the install. Not sure if the sound is any different because of the quad setup but some people claim there is a megaphone effect, that's why I made the clip with the quad tips for a comparison. There's no drone at all. It sounds really mean after 3,000 RPM. A friend of mind following me in his 335i said it sounds really loud but there's 0 drone inside the car, which is why I think this is the perfect setup.

I also have this same exact setup

2008 c350
stock quad tips with Y pipe
Magnaflow X-pipe to replace resonator for $65 off amazon

yes, sounds mean at higher RPMs, no drone

Hey all...I normally install Catback Systems and never remove Cats or Mufflers but I am interesting in understanding what an X-Pipe is and why install it and does it make any difference in performance? Also what is a drone? I have never heard of it.

Also what size open on the pipe did you use?

The X-pipe is basically just a short piece of twin piping that joins together and splits back in 2 pipes. Just like a X. So it will blend equally your left and right exhaust. So on a 6 cylinder engine instead of hearing the rumble of 3 cylinders per exhaust pipe you will hear the rumble of 6 cylinder on each side.

Now where the big difference comes from is because you will remove the resonator and install the X-pipe at that place. You would probably have a similar result just by removing the resonator and replacing it by 2 straight pipes but for the reason mentionned previously it will sound much better with the X-pipe. I have ordered mine just 2 days ago of from ebay from Toronto greater area (actually it's from London, Ontario). I have found on this forum that people use the magnaflow 2.25 inches X-pipe so this is what i ordered. I should receive it any day now.

Can't wait to finally have a bit of a sound going out of this car.. It's sooo boring without it... I'm sick of grand pa's car!!!

I have put in a cross pipe along with high flow mufflers and quad tips. This link is for the cross pipe which is 2.25". http://solo-performance.com/xandy

This is a sound clip of my exhaust setup

It depends of what you are looking for. Of what I've read (and heard on the clips) if you do only X-pipe and resonator removal (x-pipe takes place of the resonator) your 350 will sound like something close to a Z350 or G37. That's if you keep your original mufflers. I don't think the quad tips will make much of a difference in the sound. Then I know some guys have replaced their mufflers with straight pipes (no mufflers).

You do not need to do it all at once, you may do the X-pipe and see if you like it. That's what I'll do, I should receive my X-pipe next week!

baez350 11-18-2012 11:03 AM

well i want to replace the mufflers also but i dont know which ones to get but also i want the quad tips.

daniel where did you get your quad exhaust tips?

Cosworth2000 11-19-2012 11:08 AM

Thanks so much "toxicwaste" you have been great and your writing made it really easy to understand.

So I'm guessing our regular pipe size is 2.25.

I think I might get this also though it does not sound like it will release exhaust faster.

I'm wondering if anyone sells a catback system for our cars. I keep seeing tips and pipes but not a catback. Maybe I am missing something.

I'll keep searching but I have noticed something that really stands out. Exhaust systems seem to be 45% more expensive on our cars then others cars.

Weird.:nix:

I found mine at this link. you can use either the Mach 21 or Mach 23 they are an offset offset config.

You don't need to do the mufflers but it definitely makes it sound alot better. I originally just did the cross pipes which sounds fantastic.

I went with new mufflers on my quad set-up so when I sell the car the buyer has the option of retuning the car to stock.
I'll see if I can get a few drive by

I ordered two matching tips from the dealer and had them welded on at the shop. I can't recall the forum member but it was a guy from Hawaii who posted a thread on the forum with part numbers and instructions.

You can find great quad tips here
http://www.quality-tuning.com

Mine are the 151574L & 151574R

Download the catalogue in the upper right hand corner. They even offer the new square style found on the C63 Black series

I had the resonator deleted and replaced by an X-Pipe and I LOVE the sound right now. Not agressive at all, just the nice note that you can hear when accelerating. Inside the car with windows up you can slightly tell the difference but it is a sound you want to hear, not something your wife will be mad at you for :-)

As far as tail pipes I will order them this spring once I order my AMG bodykit. Here is what I will be putting on;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230884586160...84.m1423.l2649

I like the way they are angled and have the AMG logo. Also the finish looks awesome and quality grade. the price is for the pair and if you look at the way they connect into each other this make me think it is an easy fit.

I got my wheels last week and all the goodies will be arriving before spring so that I can play the gangster in the streets around town! hehe

How Can I Make My 2013 C350 Coupe Sound Aggressive & a Bit Loud?

I have a 2013 C350 Coupe and i wanted to know what can i install in it to make it more aggressive like an AMG? from previous knowledge i know i should try to install an X-Pipe, but is that all? :nix:

The X-Pipe is a good start, although you'll have to get an AMG to sound like one. To get even more aggressive, some guys run straight pipes or add different mufflers but you'll have unbearable drone in my opinion (at least it's unbearable to me). I think the X-pipe is the cheapest and best sounding solution.

Have you tried to delete the 2nd cat? No drone

Triikytreh 05-30-2013 06:04 PM

well in that case, what X-Pipe would you recommend? i know there's magnaflow but what else?

Nicholi2007 06-08-2014 01:55 PM

For the 6000k HID where did you get your bulbs?

Whats better in terms of sound quality, straight 2 1/2 inch pipes with no resonator and flow master mufflers or a full exhaust system like the eisenmann or magnaflow?

I personally wouldn't spend over a grand on any kind of exhaust system for the w204. In my opinion, my magnaflow x-pipe + muffler delete to quad tips sounds just as good as a full system, to me it sounds better. But i'm sure you have heard about the infamous drone to this setup. I can say the highway drone is annoying, city driving not so bad. Ive talked with a couple other owners and it really depends on your personal taste. some dudes really dont mind, others hate it and change it immediately. I was thinking of getting a magnaflow muffler, but I doubt that will help the drone much so I dont think it may be worth the $$$. Thinking about welding the stock mufflers like the original poster of this thread.

here are two clips of my setup to give you an idea.... (Car is a 2011 C300)
