Something wrong? No brake dust,

I have a 12 C250 with 1600 miles on it and there seems to be little to no brake dust. We had a C300 that had the worst dust in the world. I have had 4 MB cars in the last few years and all had terrible black dust, my 09 ML was so bad you thought someone was taking a spray gun with black goo and spraying the car.
Does anyone else find no dust on their 12 C250? What gives? Not that I am complaining. I am thrilled.

New friction material I'm told. If so thank heavens!

Mine is 2011 and I could hardly see any brake dust any time. Brakes are working normally so I do not worry.

The 2008 warranty rear pad replacement for my C300 eliminated the pad dust forevermore. I would think that pad compound would have been used since then.

Akebono recommendations will now follow.

This is the first time i've seen a complaint for no brake dust. My rims are coated with more road dust than brake dust (OEM brake pads).

Very little brake dust on the rear wheels, a moderate amount on the front (although still FAR less than older MBs).

Yes, my 08 also had the same issue, the fronts were bad, the rears were 10 X worse than the fronts. Finally got the dealership to admit there was a new formula rear pad that they would replace as long as you had less than 10000 miles on the car, I had 12000 but they did it anyway. I guess they would not admit it until you were past the 10000 amount and they could then charge you.
I also have a 12 GLK that has a very bad brake dust issue so I guess the new formulation did not apply to that car.

I think they started using ceramic.. If so I will say thanks forever to mercedes. I hate brake dust and I always use aftermarket low dust pads on my cars.

I've noticed this as well with mine - I attributed it to there being so much open area on the wheels, but I am glad to hear they changed the pad composition. Coming from a smart that could make the front wheels and tires blend together after 500 miles - it is a welcome change.

Do you think the cross driled brake rotor in the front is better than the "plain" one at the back?

I searched for my other SUV and got mixed answers. Some say cross drilled rotor removes brake dust better but easier to warp, due to less material, slotted is better than cross drilled, and slotted + cross drilled is ... In the end I got a vague impression that the "plain" rotor is a good choice; the other types are more for look.

Why doesn't MB use cross dilled rotor at the back?

I own a 2009 C300 4Matic, but I recently installed 2012 wheels in it, and no, that doesnt change anything with the dust.

Just for the record of how they look in the earlier W204

Must be because they are too small to drill them. That would make them easier to warp.

Different wheels do effect the amount of dust that hangs on. My CLK Elegance wheels don't catch & hold dust like my W203 standard wheels did. AMG IV replicas I fitted to the W203 did not hold dust like the standards either.

Different wheels create different turbulence.

Not bad.

Those have a center channel that I would have thought would catch more dust. I have the 18" 7 spokes which are a lot more "spindly" and have less surface area and curves, which is what I was getting at.
