Keeping Rims Clean
Hey Guys,
Ok so I have a C350 but I guess it really does not matter as I see lots of MB and BMW with this same problem.
I contacted the dealer and asked them why they do not use ceramic brake pads and they told me that during testing MB brake pads are made from iron so they cause lots of brake dust.
Well this brake dust is kind of a pain in the butt as my car looks good but the wheels only stay nice for about 4 days while the car is shining.
Has anyone switched to ceramic without any problems. I know that ceramic can sometimes be hard on slotted rotors as they can grove them but I also like that fact that they product less brake dust.
If anyone is not running the stock iron brake pads, what would you suggest?
Thanks

Wow...thanks so much...they sound promising. They also stated that they are friendly to rotors which is a very good thing. I can't tell you how hard ceramics are on rotors especially slotted rotors which our cars have.
They are also price nice at $92 for front and $68 for rear.
They didn't have my year of car but I believe the 2011 year should be ok. Other than that...I am not sure if if the rears would fit since I have the 4Matic system.
Any takes on this one?

Many folks here are successfully running Akebono EUR brake pads (check part numbers. For my C300 it was 1340/1341). I've since put them on our E and my daughter's Accord. Essentially no dust and great performance. More than a year later and rotors still look good too. I haven't used wheel cleaning products since...they just sit on the shelf.

Have you noticed any performance gain using these over the stock ones? I'm interested in this because the brake dust thing is annoying.

No. Performance seems comparable, but pedal has improved feel. It's firmer. With the disappearance of the dust, I thought that was a major win.
