Glad you ok!! I am little disappointed in you riding around with such dirty wheels from the brake dust , front and back tisk tisk

I Know! It was my first free day in weeks and was running errands and planning on detailing my car.
I did neither.

Not trying to justify the lady hitting the OP, but cars aren't an investment. I know you (and a lot of other people) have custom work in your car (work that makes the car unique, why you love your car). That is money you'll never get back; insurance companies don't give a crap about those upgrades

When my old S class was nailed, that was a bit of a wake up call for me. It doesn't matter how good of a driver you are... all it takes is being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and all that money will go down the drain. It's a real risk everybody on here should be aware of. Especially if you're dropping coin on a car that's not even paid off yet

I'm pretty sure those of us who make the choice to mod our cars know that it's a depreciating game we play, but it's a hobby that we enjoy. We get our return in investment from the little smile that creeps up the edge of our lips every time we see our cars as we're enthusiasts at heart.

As for insurance, it depends. There's aftermarket part insurance you can put on and I keep all my receipts so that I can claim value on those mods.

Either way, we're all glad that no lives were lost as that's the one insurance claim no one likes to cash in on...

Having the receipts and then going through the process are two separate things (which I hope you have never gone through or have to go through). I had the insurance company of the party at fault go through my paperwork and they bumped up the offer a bit. They wouldn't budge past a certain point and my only option at that point was to hire a party neutral inspector to value the cost of the upgrades I did (which I decided not to do after scouting around and finding it cost as much as $500) or to sue the party at fault for the difference (and she was already broke)

I put a lot of TLC into my car which is why I got so angry when it was destroyed. But at the same time, dumping that much into a car was a bad idea on my part. I never thought it was a bad idea until it happened, which is my point I guess. Sh*t happens unfortunately, it's not like the insurance company made you upgrade your car, so (playing devil's advocate here), why should they have to pay for unnecessary upgrades

The aftermarket part insurance you mention is a pretty cool idea. You'd still have to sue the person to get them to pay your deductible, but that provides a great way to cover yourself. What companies offer that? (just curious)

I also had a close call with a 18 wheeler 2 days ago. I decided to end up in the shoulder rather than in a hospital as the truck is going towards me on a narrow road and his left wheels are on my lane. No matter how many times I flashed my headlamp he did not correct his truck not to mention did not adjust his speed so I just went to the grassy and muddy shoulder instead.

Good thing you are okay but effects of soft tissue damage usually pops out after two to three days so make sure when you feel anything funny go see your doctor. Lawyer up is also something you need to do if you got hurt to protect yourself from the blood sucking insurance companies.
