2011 C300 4Matic Sport; Possible transmission problem

2 Attachment(s)
My father has a 2011 C300 4Matic with 21000 miles, which for some reason has been experiencing transmission problems since Service B performed at 19700.

The car whether cold or warm; seems to have a distinctive noise coming from the transmission as well as vibration. When I took the car in for service I told them that it had a slight vibration coming from the front-right side. Neither the mechanic nor the service adviser was able to duplicate the problem and all they did was reset the TCU after which the car seemed to be fine for about 100 miles.

Over the past few days, the vibration and noise have become more noticeable and I have scheduled an appointment at Loeber Mercedes Benz for the upcoming Friday.

Couple days ago He was reversing into my garage and when I shifted into reverse the car would hesitate moving, so I shifted back to park and reverse a couple times and only after that she started moving. Also sometimes when he is going 35 miles and wants to accelerate quickly the accelerator seems to fall through; this has not happened before.

The engine works great so, it is not a problem. I’ve had the video taken whilst the car was warm.

Besides the Service B; I've had my coolant hose replaced under the warranty as it was leaking, I took a look under the hood today and I saw white residue all over, hoses, belt, the pulley. What are the chances that it is leaking again?

Thank you for reading.
-Mike

Hi, did you ever find out what the problem was?

C300210 03-02-2014 02:11 AM

Hi, I've the same issue after doing 2010 c300 service-b on 40k miles recently at Open Road, Nj and the dealer have done transmission fluid too. If you ever found out ever the issue, I like to know.

Since then svs-b, only it losts the comfort of the luxury and losing acceleration and speed at 35 miles. The car is producing unpleasant noise in idle and acceleration. I am taking it back to the dealer for overnight next week. Hope they find something or able to fix. The dealer adeisor is very nice and try to assist. Right now, the noise and performance of my car is worse than my father in-law 2002 Toyota Camry.

C300 4Matic - Noise coming from transmission (?)

I own a 2011 C300 4Matic and I love this car (or at least I used to). Most of you guys claim having problems shifting. I never noticed any problems shifting, but I started hearing a funny noise coming from the transmission (according to my mechanic), a couple of weeks ago. First he thought I had a bad front right wheel bearing, so he replaced it. Of course it didn't solve the problem. The noise only appears when the car is moving, never when it's stopped. It sounds almost like wind blowing through a half open window. When I start the car, though, it sounds different. Almost the noise of a fan or alternator belt that's almost ready to break apart, so every 1/2 second or so you hear that noise, and the frequency will increase with the speed of the car, up to approx. 30/35 mph. After that, you only hear the "blowing wind" noise. My mechanic talked to some of his friends, including a "transmission specialist" and they all said that the whole transmission needs to be replaced (around $7,000.00), and some also said that this is a common problem with 4Matic transmissions. I forgot to mention that my car has exactly 15,500 miles - it's 4 1/2 years old, and my warranty is over (of course I didn't get an extended warranty). I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow (Sept. 22, 2015). Has someone had a similar problem? If this is such a common problem, how come there's never been a class action lawsuit against MB?

I had the same issue. My mechanic changed the transmission bearing and it disappeared, at least it's fine now for a month. Not sure if this will continue happen or not.
My mechanic also said Mercedes won't give the bearing, but only offer the whole transmission replacement, which is really ridiculous.
This issue should be on re-call, I think.

you really should try to get us the bearings part number from your mechanic.
would be a very big contribution to this forum for future transmission victims.

TRANSMISSION BEARING

UPDATE: I just dropped my C300-4Matic this morning at the dealer where I had bought it new. They will give me a diagnostic this evening (they charged me $190.00 just for the diagnostic ! ! !).

Anyway, regarding the bearing you (GoSuckMyTites) replaced, my mechanic said: "which one? there are a hundred bearings in that sucker!" these are his words... So, do you know which one you replaced, by any chance?

Regarding these transmission problems, I'm seriously thinking about starting a class action lawsuit against MB for (at least) the 2010 and 2011 models. If you guys know about other transmission problems with the C300-4Matic, from different years, please let me know. Thank you.

I'll keep you updated about what Mercedes has to say about my transmission.

I am not familiar with these mechanic parts. Here attached with some pictures I took when the mechanic showed me along with the invoice. I hope this can help:

FROG1,

The 4Matic transmission problem seem to stem through the entire W204 model. In fact, I've heard reports of this transmission breaking across other Mercedes models as well.

The dealerships will deny this of course, but if you do a quick search throughout this forum, you'll see that the horror stories come from all models with the transmission in question.

I guess it's true. The car is excellent, I love my C class so much. Why can't they just make it more reliable like other Japanese cars!!
Seriously, I will consider a new Japanese car before my third party warranty went out.

Eww, Japanese cars lol. I understand that they are way more reliable, but I can't get over the "cheap" feeling when driving one. The only make I believe that comes close to German quality is Toyota/Lexus out of the Japanese choices. Even then, I would still choose German xD

C300 transmission

I have a 2011 mercedes .300 4Matic. Barely 35000. Outside of the factory warranty by 7 months. I have asked mercedes for post warranty assistance. They declined. I am the second owner, but the car was always serviced in white plains NY at the mercedes dealership. Any recommendations where I can get a transmission cheap so I can get rid of this nightmare.

TRANSMISSION - C300 - 4MATIC - 2011 model

Chickdon, my friend, you are very lucky :) ... you could drive 35,000 miles with your original transmission... I got 15,500 out of mine... I bought my C300-4Matic brand new, from the dealer... I took it to the dealer on September 22, 2015, because of some weird noise coming out of the transmission. They told me that the whole transmission needed to be replaced (Mercedes recommends that they should replace the whole transmission, so the dealer does not accept even to touch it). My car was about 6 months out of the original warranty. I called the US Corporate Office (East Coast)... they told me to go "fly a kite" (in other words, of course)... They said I was out of the warranty, and that they couldn't do anything for me. So, $8,245.19 later, I had a rebuilt transmission installed by the dealer, and is now running beautifully... (so far...)
Now, before starting a class action lawsuit, I'm going to write to the German Corporate Office, (hadn't time to do it yet), and ask them if they are willing to reimburse me for that. If they say no, as I said, I will start immediately gathering facts and information from other C300 owners like you and I, and will contact an attorney.
Anybody reading this, including you, Chickdon, PLEASE start sending me all pertinent information and facts about similar problems with this "beautiful" transmission - the W204.
You can send that information to MERCEDESLAWSUIT@GMAIL.COM - Attn.: Henri
Thank you.

I had a 08 c300, only 60k miles, but got a rotating noise when 15 m/h and higher from this few weeks, I'm pretty sure it's coming around the transfer case, or the front drive shaft boot.

The noise recorded near the transfer case:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1k3d...ew?usp=sharing

The transfer case has a oil leak, and Front drive shaft boot, connect with transfer case has some cracks(oil on the pan is not leak, just from my oil change):

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ui=...d=ii_jqsna6920

Can I remove the front drive shaft and run it? So I can make sure the noise is not coming from front drive shaft.
Please also let me know if anyone have any thoughts on this problem.

I'll thank you for any helps!!!

Best

Can someone bring me up to speed here?

Was there a transmission change between preFL and post FL? Are these transmission failures exclusive to the, perhaps older 5 speed transmission?

I'm going back a few years and quite frankly I don't know enough about the suspension changes pre/post FL. Would appreciate some insight if anyone knows top of mind.

I don't recall ever reading a 7Gtronic failure which was found in the post FL 204.
