Yes, you can upgrade to Gen 2 (Silver/black/red color) ... As long as you they use Telematics disc after 9/2013

Hey guys! I have a Mercedes c250 coupe 2012 and like many on here been wanting to change to 2013 plus screen colors. I should have bought the 2013 used car I was looking at but at the time didn't know the changes were only on 2013 plus.
I have my car at the Mercedes dealer ship now and they have had my car for 2 days and can't seem to figure out how to change color to black and silver. Any ideas on this? The firmware update was done to 7.7 but still they don't know how to change color. Surely there is a way.

Dealer updates using Xentry. I believe Mercedes designed the system to only take latest software for your MY2012 which is still papyrus. I did mine myself with a STAR and Vediamo flash, but that is extremely complicated. I used disc 05/2014, I don't know if they will want to put that disc in a 2012, but you can ask them.

I tried out papyrus in mine but it clashes with the black and brushed aluminum interior I have. I think with a tan interior and wood trims it might go ok.

I agree! I have a black on black myself. I just changed to night mode and messed with the brightness. This works okay.
Do you have the black and silver screen?

Mine is black and silver by default. It sounds like older ones with papyrus don't have it but the black and silver ones can switch.

You are correct. Go figure they changed screen 1 year later models 2013 black/silver screen.

I can't imagine that color looks great with a black/brushed metal interior. But from what I have seen most Mercedes have tan/beige interiors with wood paneling.

I actually picked out the brushed metal on purpose even though it's considered a downgrade. It was hard to find too. It just has a sportier look to it.

I agree the brush metal looks nicer in my opinion and is def. more sportier.
I just changed it to black and grey nightmare.

can you post step by step guide at all for this, i have been looking but no one seems to be able to do it. everyone seems to say this cannot be done. i understand it may be complicated but if i can see how to maybe i can replicate. thank you

You need a STAR, some ***** and a hell of a technical background.

Probably not for me not too skilled in technical background. It's unfortunate the dealer can't do this. I paid $400 and they couldn't change color of screen. They refunded me.

It is completely possible if you have a 2012, you just have to find someone that knows how to do it.

I bought the telematics discs. With they work alone or must I have star system to instal?

STAR is a must to flash the updates. you cannot just put it in and it will read it.

Unfortunate no one will do it for liability reasons. I called 10 Mercedes dealers around me me and 3 other mechanic shops.
It's unfortunate because I can be done and I'm willing to pay but no one will do it.
