Radar/LiDAR countermeasures.

Since everyone is all about bigger, better, faster.. I suggest you all spend $1300 on protecting yourselves from getting a speeding ticket. Who is running what as far as Radar and lidar countermeasures?

No offense, but a fast car isn't sh** if you can't drive it fast all the time.

Last note, I'm all set on being lectured on safety, if you're on here researching mods to make your car more powerful.

Running a 9500ix. So far so good. Considering V1 though... How effective are laser jammers?

W204Man 10-25-2013 10:28 AM

I have an Escort Max and laser interceptor. I live in texas and my laser jammer has never gone off. And my escort max is not that good. It goes off all the time. And the frequency changes so I cant save the spot and lock it out. I my trade back to my 9500ix.

C300Sport 10-25-2013 01:08 PM

I would say the Valentine One is the best radar detector. Detecting laser just lets you know about 30 seconds sooner that you are going to get a ticket.
I have known a few people with laser "jammers" and they have had mixed results with one friend getting three tickets before he scrapped the idea of being able to fly under the radar...or lidar as the case may be.

clkwork 10-25-2013 01:36 PM

Nothing on the market really works against modern lidar, plus the officer can always peg you for reckless even if the jammer worked. Save your $1300 for tickets and insurance.

Or don't adopt the attitude that

a fast car isn't sh** if you can't drive it fast all the time.
When you kill some unsuspecting mother and children in their minivan on the way to the store to get groceries, statements like the above blasted all over public forum are not going to be your friend.

If you can afford mods, you can afford track time. The public roads aren't your personal racetrack.

Do some research before you make such a claim.

Thanks for the advice.

I've gone a step farther than your old vendor sponsored propaganda film and talked with LEOs - they don't work against updated lidar. Go ahead and waste your money though, I couldnt care less. :y

mmike 10-25-2013 10:51 PM

Off topic, but OP how is your kleeman ecu tune? noticeably faster? worth it?

Daveskii 10-26-2013 01:21 PM

Running a 9500ix. One saved ticket already paid for itself. Went off a half mile ahead of me on the I-10. CHP uses KA band over here. If the instant on laser hits you, its over but I've yet to see a cop not use KA. And yes if you ask a cop whether they work they are going to laugh and say save your money. Gee I wonder why....

Rc_cola 10-26-2013 03:55 PM

In my last car I had an Escort 9500ix and a Blinder M25 laser jammer and I enjoyed four years of spirited driving without a ticket.

In my new C350 I got the new Escort Max. So far it has been good. I'm thinking about adding the Escort live cord and trying the system. I'm concerned that no one uses it in my area and it will be a waste of $100. Has anybody used the Live system? If so what has been the results?

They work. The key is to slow down right away when the first jam takes place, as the cop always retriggers the lidar a few seconds later to makeup for the misread (jam) on the first attempt.

Just run the Waze app on your iphone, and participate in the community by sending notifications, alot more users in that.

me and my friend are going down to the LA auto show next month; my C250 has the full Driver Assistance Package (DISTRONIC PLUS, safety nannies). Would the Valentine 1 work fine if i turn off the K band sensors (the DISTRONIC PLUS radar seems to run on K band) and just stick to Ka?

I would double check in other threads. I cannot give you a definite answer. What you said should seem to work though.

other threads werent helpful, other than they kept referring to the integration of the unit. I was looking on the BMW forums and it seems that disabling the POP mode will work, even without disabling the K band. I know in CA, K band is rarely used by the police so Ka band should be safe. I'll try both and see what happens.

SaphGreyC63 10-27-2013 09:11 PM

I have a Valentine One

I have never seen a cop on the X or K bands. Always some BS radar going off like a grocery store door. It's ALWAYS been Ka Band here in SoCal and has saved my butt three times so far in a year. Definitely worth the cost.

had a question about the Waze app. Do you have to be in navigation mode to get the police and road hazard alerts? I tried using it in regular, non navi mode and i didnt get any alerts...

where do you mount your detector? I need to find the correct spot when i use my friend's detector cause the cameras and radar for the lane keeping assist are at the top of the windshield...
