Car broken into--need advice
Passenger window smashed and I have GEICO insurance. Should I insist on factory parts? Is there any place I should check for hidden damage?

Yes, OEM parts, but read your policy to see if you have that right or if that right was waived. If unsure, call your Geico agent/customer service rep and ask them to refer you to the relevant section of the policy.
Once repaired, you can gekko-ing again!!

Had this happen to me once, they didn't get the broken glass out of the door. every time you hit a bump you could hear it moving around. Deff have that written into the estimate.

Don't know about geico, but many insurance companies include an option to include OEM parts coverage at an additional cost.
I'm with farmers and it costs about $25 more per year to have the OEM option added to my policy.
So check your policy to make sure you've got OEM parts coverage.
Get someone to take the door apart to vacuum all the glass out. My wife's drivers window got smashed a few years ago (she left our son's ipod on the back seat). Took the glass guy about 4 hours to take the door completely apart to vacuum all the glass out.

In their policy stats that but do they actually do it or not that I have not experienced yet.
For my daughter's Jetta they put non OEM after market bumper, that's when I found out about the policy.
That's probably the reason they offer such competitive premium.

It's Geico. Of course they'll insist on the Fuyao stuff. That said I've found my recent Fuyao replacement to be aberration free and as perfect as the original OE. 205k miles and on my 4th windshield.
They do give you an option for the OE stuff (CA), but you're on the hook for it. Like 700 bucks or something outrageous like that. Opted out. Fuyao, while a Chinese brand, is now manufactured in the USA.

It depends on what your plans are for the car.
