How Long do Rear Shock Absorbers Last ?

I have reached 80,000 km ( 50,000 miles) & both rear shocks have evidence of a slight leak , not wet or dripping, but the accumulation of dust associated with dampness.

There is no noise & they are still damping correctly.

I would have expected more as I never changed the rear shocks in 350,000 km in my last Peugeot diesel. MB Sachs shocks must be a little precious

Price each delivered A$180 from Sachs dealer.:rolf:

Grateful of information on length of service forum members have received from their rear shocks..

Hi Carsy,

My C220 cdi Sport now has 93200 kms on it (58250 miles) and has one rear shock with a slight weep (right rear - offside). Only found out through the annual Gov't MOT test when I saw an "advisory" on the paperwork. Ride seems OK still.

Cars get a beating here on our pothole riddled roads - local authorities seem to have given up on maintenance!

Thanks NewtoMB,

I have been monitoring one now for 20,000 km & it is still damping OK.

I thought it maybe just a one off so was disappointed to see the second one affected.

My plan I think will be to keep an eye on them & replace when necessary.

I have bought the only one that was available in Australia, so they must not be a large problem.

JC. Slight dampness at the wiper seal does not spell immediate death of a shock. They can soldier on for a long time like that. Just watch for anything that would indicate substantial loss of fluid.

Thanks as usual Glyn. JC.
