Rims from Ebay

Hey guys,

Looking at getting some new rims here pretty soon. Right now I am just running 17inch stock wheels on a 2013 C300 Sport (those will go up for sale with tires once I decide on rims by the by). I'd like to go to 18's and stay with a somewhat OEM look. I really like the looks of the following but was actually curious if anyone has dealt with this seller/company before.

I was going to call and ask some questions but figure maybe someone here has purchased from them. If not no big deal!

Thanks for reading,
C

I think you will find what you want from this forum sponsor with a history of great products, prices, and service.

Here's an example......

Oh, thank you for the response. Some reason I missed them and they look nice. Not dead set on any vendor, just want some good looking stuff. Thanks, I will give them a call.

For me weight is a major consideration. Many of the replicas weigh more than genuine and rotating wheel weight is important.

Does he sell other style wheels? I lost one of my aftermarket wheels to a pot hole two weekends ago and I am back on the OEM's. Checked Tire Rack and my model had been discontuned and I could not find any I liked in my budget.

Looked around for the OEM 17 inch rim weight and didn't seem to find it. The Ebay ones don't list the weights but the Power Wheels Pro are around 25lb's. Is that heavy or right around standard?

22-25 lbs seems to be about the norm, I sold my stock 17 double spoke rims from my C250 and shipped them and they were 24 lbs each packed in a cardboard box

At $900/set you're buying junk. Nothing on Ebay is going to be of higher quality than your OEM Mercedes rims.

Upon what facts do you base this assertion? Do you have data with comparable C/100 or mean time to failure which correlates with price? Manufacturers across a range of industries know of and exploit the price/quality perception to gain stronger margins for products which do not incur a production cost difference. Market research data is full of experiments where the same product was judged of higher quality when the price shown was higher.

Certainly, product quality may vary, but price is not a valid predictor of quality. For example, Powerwheels Pro has sold many wheels here to many happy and satisfied members in the $500-$700 range for a set. Their business model is to source from TUV/JWL certified suppliers who have additional capacity to offer. Even Mercedes Benz does not produce their own wheels; they outsource them to a TUV certified supplier, although all four on my E Class dented quite easily before being replaced by a set from PWP.

Having spent a few decades in the US auto industry, I have experienced the clear lack of direct correlation between production cost and price. For example, we almost always pay more for an automatic transmission, even though historically the variable piece cost is less than that of the base manual transmission. I've also signed off on the purchase of hundreds of thousands of wheels and was amazed early on in my career at how the costs were structured compared to how we priced them.

So, don't fall for the temptation to judge anything by price. Examine the goods and let the product speak for itself. There is high priced "junk" and low priced quality to be had if you know where and how to look.
