While looking for new shoes, I found that my tires set up is a bit odd. My C350 is staggered and the tires are like this:

Front left: 225/45 R17
Front right: 245/40 R17
Rear left: 245/40 R17
Rear right: 225/45 R17

Is this a bit odd? Looks like tires were rotated on right side only (front 245 but rear 225). Will it affect the tires in any way? Wear, handling, etc.?

This is a CPO so I don't know what the previous owner had done to it.

It might cause issues if they tires aren't close in tread depth. I'd take it back to the dealer and make them fix it. If that means replacement tires they should eat that. CPO shouldn't have issues like this.

 

Must have been a long night of drinking before the day the shop pulled that one off!

I can't link it to a specific result, as I've not tried this odd pattern, but I'd return the 225s to the front and 245s to the rear where they belong!

@Sportstick: yeah this is definitely . Good thing I found out yesterday. Lesson learned that you always have to carefully check parts even if it is a CPO. Never trust the crap "certified" with 150 something points of car validation.

 

You have a c350 and it only have 17" rims? Thats odd. I am assuming you are south of the border. Usually c350s comes standard with 18" wheels. If it is the sport version guaranteed it should have the AMG 18" rims on it. If this is the case go back to the dealer and ask for those amg rims.

 

Nice! Yep I am south of the border in Seattle. I will check for that as well. I have AMG 17" rims instead. I just scheduled an appointment for tomorrow. The dealer is so dead with me this time lol

 

Ask them to run your VIN on their system and have the original built spec printed out for you. It should show what option the car came with when it rolled out from the factory. Here in Vancouver whenever you buy a CPO the salesman gives you a copy of the original sticker that came with the car or a VIN report sheet showing what the car came with from the factory as it is requirement for the CPO designation.They cannot sell you a CPO car that doesnt have the original specifications (ei. Rims). Demand those 18" AMG rims.

Since you are RWD, it only really applies per axle. Also, don't swap them before going. Make them do everything so its documented if you need the new tires because they were mounted wrong.

Look at that! A NA C350 with stock 17" wheels. I haven't seen that before! Well guess no 18" for you my friend.

 

Aw no. I guess I will have to live with it and save up for 18" or 19" then. In any case I will bug the heck out of dealer tomorrow for the weird tire rotation for sure. Wonder if this is a crap trick they do to get the laser mapping tire tread depth pass for CPO...

 

I wouldn't give them so much credit. Likely took wheels off to inspect brakes and just screwed up the reinstallation. They may not have been in place long enough for any damage. When they are off tomorrow, have them line up the 225s and compare the tread, and same for the 245s, keeping in mind these cars burn through the rears at about a 2:1 ratio to the fronts. But, both tires of each same size set should be in a similar condition.

 

Thanks for the tips. This is very messed up. Sure I will check both set of tire for tread depth tomorrow. The tires has burned through 7000+ miles since I got my baby last Dec . I will let you guys know it goes.

 

Ok so this morning I went to dealer (Barrier MB in Bellevue) to have them deal with this problem. They told me they will rotate the wheels back to the right place, check the tread on tires and decide what to do next. I asked to talk to the managers. I told everyone I met my story about "burning 7000 hard miles in 3 months on wrong tires and now my would-be front tire is extremely worn out" . In the end they agreed to replace 2 front tires and that is on them.
This is insane but at least they made it less painful and owned up to their mistakes.
Off topic: In the meantime, they gave me a loaner. A 2014 C300 4Matic. Man this is a beast. It isn't as strong as my C350 with ECU tuned but it is better in term of handling. Cornering and 0-100MPH was super fun. I don't feel that gear lag at corner. Great throttle response. Top it off by stop-start ECO mode, this is truly the future. I might pick up a '13+ C350 or C63 some day.

Thanks. Yeah they were telling me I might need to replace rear soon. Tread depth was not too bad so it is fine for now. They can do it now but the rear tires will be out of my pocket. I plan to drive for a couple more months and either get 18" with new tires to replace rear tires.
