effed parking why do people do this
So this is a pic of my car the first month I owned it. I am a far parker so I don't get dings and what not. picture one is at a strip mall. With no one around I parked came out and BAM! 
sucker on my door no damage but still a dick move. the second one was at home depot I found a cart in my fender
Does anyone else have a WTF dent or effed parking job next to their car?

About 3 weeks ago I was at an offsite meeting. I had to be there early - and I parked 2 floors higher than the rest of the cars in the garage in a spot next to a half spot with a pole in it. I was not thinking it would fill up to that level. I came out several hours later to a packed garage and some POS ancient Audi A4 wedged in that half spot. They banged my door with theirs and knocked a piece of clearcoat off, but thankfully no dent.
I thought about keying, I thought about banging the door back, I thought about donkey kicking the car. It was a total banged up POS and the owner would probably not have noticed, and beating up someone else's property isn't really my thing.
The only piece of paper I had in my car was a program from church the day before... on the back of it I wrote "Thank you for the first door ding on an otherwise pristine 2 year old car. If you can't fit in the spot don't park there. Remember, karma is circular" and stuck it under their wiper.
I need to get a clearcoat touch up pen.

I struggle with the best ding-avoidance strategy. Parking psychology was never part of my driving experience until I got this car and promptly had $250 worth of PDR in my passenger side door... The obvious danger zone is where the moms in oversized SUVs unload their progeny and appear oblivious to their surroundings. Next, banged up hoopties whose owners don't care about their own cars let alone others'. Then it gets complicated: park as far away as possible? Some dumbass will park right next to you, no matter how many other open spaces (see above!). Lately I've been looking for nicely modded or recently detailed cars to park next to. No new dings lately...

If I have to wedge myself into a spot, I tend to look for Minivans without child seats (sliding doors) and 4 door cars.
If I have to be in some place for an extended period of time, I will find elsewhere to park - even in another lot nearby.

good grief. that's SOOO annoying. why in the H*LL would he park RIGHT THERE. I got a ding on my black c250 1 week after picking it up (2013, brand new). I parked way away, and low and behold, a s*tty mazda m3 (no offense) parked right next to me. ding city.
also, one day I was at a grocery store and was sitting in my car before turning it off and engaging the parking brake, a very old dude pulls up next to me. he flings open his door like there was NOTHING next to him (except my damn car). he grabbed his door at the last second and was like "ohhhhh, crap". YEAH. He saw me sitting in my car. If I wasn't there, or, maybe on just another day, his door would've slammed into mine. Yes, he was of the older generation, but I'm just acknowledging the fact that crap like that happen everyday, and I happen to be in the situation that I would've witnessed it in 'realtime'.
In my case, I'm not saying people suck per-se, just that some folks don't know or care about other things around them

Lots of people are d1cks, they just like to mess with people who have nice cars. I would always take corner parking spaces. Therefore you only have one car to worry about parking next to you. Its pretty stressful to worry about where to park everywhere you go. 1st world problems

Being that you didn't pull a dick move and take up more than one space, I'd say this guy was just an idiot. For some reason I suspect he thinks he was "funny."
Now when people take up more than one spot...they deserve what they get (not that you did, but it's a pet-peeve of mine that I see nearly every day.)

I've had this happen numerous times. My wife always complains..."why do you even bother parking way out here? You know someone is going to park right next to you."
Yesterday....stopped into Meijr......as always...I parked like you did...out in no mans land. Cell rings...talk to a buddy ...nice out, windows down...and here she comes. I was shocked. It was a young girl.....late teens, early 20's. Parks right on my passenger side. She tries to get out and I immediately hang up on my buddy and yell......"what the hell are you doing!!!!! I scream." she couldn't even get out of her car! This crap infuriates me. So I yell....there's a million open spaces and you try to ram right up against my car? What's wrong with you? She just looks at me and says ...I don't know. So here is what I said.......honey....seriously...what makes you .....when there are no cars within 100 feet of us.....want to park so close to me that you can't even get out of your car? I really want to understand this. Again...she just looks at me and says....I don't know. So I said.....move your freaking car over....way over....no other cars are out here! And she drove off......about 100 feet up front! Ugh

This happens to me all the time. You park far away, and be sure that one other idiot is going to park next to your car.
I have found that one of the main reasons being lacking driving skills. To park a car it's easier to place it next to a car then to try to park it just using the markers on the ground.

Seriously. No debate to this. The reason people do it is jealousy. Notice people with NICER cars don't act that way. Same with driving manners in general. The older I get, the more I realize, I'd be a di** too if my life was as bad as theirs.
I also try to remember, I like my car, but I love my life. And here in VA you don't confront or yell at stupid or rude people. They already have nothing to lose. Either gang members with illegal guns or the other types. NRA headquarters is around here. Not worth getting shot over a parking lot ding.

I Have been strong except one time I had my GSR integra witch was perfect and park in the last spot at the mall. Came out huge truck that parked next to my drive side and must have flung open the door hit mine and squeezed out. I had to get in the passenger side he was so close so I key the driver side of his truck and rolled. looking back I was young and stupid and shouldn't have but at the time it felt just for the dent and scratch he left.

I'm simply saying, around here, confronting people about a perceived parking infraction isn't worth losing life or limb. People are ridiculous that's why. It sucks and angers me to no end. One thing I noticed though is that older cars never get dinged or hit in parking lots but nice ones always get dented, hit by a shopping cart or some clown parks next to it when there are tons of spaces. My Benz or even my previous car never got hit in any way but I guarantee you if I had a new C300 it would be hit. My Dad stresses when he has to park his modded Acura TL in a busy mall because it's all nice and shine.
