Upgraded Nav and Audio System
Thanks, Rich
That's what I have and the best option for an upgrade is the UMI (Universal Media Interface) or Nav+4. That basically integrates navigation, ipod control, etc. into the 5" screen and in-dash display. They install the UMI unit into the glovebox, center speaker gets swapped out and then the car is coded to accept the new goodies.
My only hold up is that I'm unsure about investing in that functionality as my iPhone navigation works fine and the Aux cable is fine for music. It just annoys me that I don't have seamless integration stock, but I still haven't been able to justify the expense to change that!
That said, I was quoted roughly $1600 from various MB dealers for parts and installation. You need to code the car to accept the upgrade and that's pretty standard with this stuff on MB. Not as easy as just swapping parts. You will need a dealer to code your car even if you grab a part from a wrecked car.
If you are thinking to retrofit COMMAND Nav into your car you'll need all the components and the cost definitely outweighs the benefit if you ask me. I'd look into UMI Nav+4 and go that route.
Do a search for UMI Nav+4 and you'll find more info on it. It's a very simple upgrade.
Here are some screenshots of the system at work.
