Touch-up Paint Question
I recently bought a touch-up bottle of 9040 Schwarz from the dealer, and when I asked the guy behind the counter if I would need clear coat with it, he said the bottle already contained it. Is this true? If not, where can I get the appropriate clear coat for touch-up purposes?

when i bought mine, palladium silver, it came with two bottles, one for paint, one for clear coat.

Bump, still stuck on this!

Year later...still stuck? Lol

Anyway, just ordered Dr. Colorchip kit. Seems to get a lot of good reviews so hopefully it performs accordingly! |
Touch-up Paint Question
I've been using De. Colorchip. Easy and works well. Have not used clearcoat.

Yes the touch up paint from Benz comes with 2 bottles, 1 color and 1 clear. And if you said your purchased it then you would know when you opened it there was 2 bottles inside.......
|
it might depend on the color. i bought it for my 2012 black c350 and it only had one bottle, parts manager at the dealer said that was it - no separate clear coat. it looks good for small chips and matches the paint well. i wouldn't do an area larger than a centimeter or so though.

Dr. Colorchip does work well.
For small areas that the kit is designed to work with, you may not need to clear coat it. |
The OEM finish has clearcoat on it - just as all MBs and most cars do these days.

ALL paint finishes these days have clearcoat over them from the factory. Its all about in-service durability and the way the cars are painted on the line.
What paint touch-up suppliers do has little relationship to the OEM finish, both in technology and durability. In your case there won't be much difference to see with straight black, and adding a clearcoat applied by brush over a metallic finish also applied by brush would be pointless and very noticeable. If you're happy with the result don't worry about it. If not, get it painted professionally! Good luck. |
