NEW OWNER 2009 C350!!! Some ?s

Hi everyone.

I'm the newbie but excited about my recent purchase of a 09 c350. I drove an 04 X-Type for about seven years and finally decided to part ways with it. It was an excellent car btw. I just have a few questions about some aftermarket work. Can the 09 taillights be switched out for the OEM led taillights with no error message? Also, I didn't realize until I watched on a YouTube review that these cars can come equipped with power folding mirrors. Have anyone added this feature after purchase?

Welcome! Good choice with the c350 which has more power than my c300. Which tail lights are you referring to? Post a pic or link.

I think I seen someone upgrade to power folding mirrors but besides upgrading your mirrors, you might have to have the folding option coded in. That part will not be that easy. Why not spend that $ on something else like new grill?

I'm not sure about the lights but I know people have done it here (I have stock ones)

Folding mirrors only came in 2008.

Congrats on the new wheels! As far as I know the 08 and some 09 came with the folding mirrors, but it was discontinued due to them breaking all the time.

You can swap to the LED, not sure if you refer to the C63 ones or the facelifted ones. But if you want to keep it oem you'll need to recode your SAM or get it from a scrap yard from one of those cars in order to avoid the error.

Should be able to get both aftermarket with resistors so you avoid the errors though.

I have been looking at the depo ones USR are selling here on the forum as they look very much like the oem and should be error free

Welcome to the form! If you haven't already you might wanna take a quick peak at this form:

As to your question about taillights, yes you can. How do I know? I've done them to my C lol. I used after market lights though so I didn't have to get my SAM re-programmed. They look just as good as OEM, and with no error codes xD

Here are the lights I got if you're interested:

I would recommend these instead as they are exact replica with resistors and won't throw any errors.

I will be posting pictures soon. I bought it literally before they even parked it on the lot (saw it posted online). They have to replace two parking lights, fix the tire pressure monitor thing, and mend a tear in the seat about two inches long. Other than that, she is flawless. Once that is done I can go pick her up, wax/detail it really good and post pics. When I test drove it initially, I couldn't really drive her like I wanted to due to five o'clock traffic. I went back yesterday and did all of the paperwork and they gave me the keys again. I held the heat to her then. I cannot believe how awesome this car performs.

Welcome, if I woulda known then what I know now, I'da bought a c350.

Yes, get the DEPO tail lights from USR and be error free. I just had them installed friday. Took me about 1 hr and a helping hand from a friend. They look great and have the resistors for error-code free operation.

They're right, the folding mirrors was just a 2008 thing. I have them and they work fine, but my indy shop guy told me to turn off the automatic folding option which will wear out the gears faster. I just do it occasionally. Gonna have them replaced before the warranty runs out this year.

I would make sure you really are ok with the look of the Depos. While they do almost look the same as the facelift lights unlit, they most definitely do not look identically when they're on. The LED strips are actually a piece of plastic with lit LEDs behind them and they look off, non OEM to me.
I've seen a lot of people who are happy with the DEPOs but for me they just don't do it

Also, I looked into the folding mirrors as I have the same car as you and even if you manage to find the folding mirrors, I think you'd need programming at the very least and a new driver light switch, mirrors and programming at the most.
To me it wasn't worth the cost of the upgrade.

I think the DEPO's from USR are identical copy of OEM. There's also another ebay ones that I bought a while back. The only problem I had with them is the LED went out on the top driver side. Not sure if this was caused by the tail light melting issue. I since had my connectors fixed via recall and have bought OEM tail lights instead.

Here is a picture of the aftermarket i bought (not USR ones) along with OEM. Can you tell which is which?

Bottom one is oem? The top one looks slightly blacked out.

I see just a few subtle differences. Nothing the average eye could catch. My main concern is how long the lights last before having to replace them.

Yeah you're right. It isn't that big of a deal. Just having long eyes I suppose.

It may just be the angle, but I wouldn't mind the darker look.

You would be an expert if you can tell the difference. What do you see?

But ya light longevity is what I was concerned with.

You're right. It's just the angle that makes one look darker than the other. When we do a meet I'll bring them. Unless you know what to look for, there's is no way you would be able to tell. I'll post tomorrow the difference.

Rear shot. Angle made one looks smaller. Besides the dead give away, you may not be able to tell either unless you saw them in person. They both have the Mercedes date stamp. Every single curve, stamp were copied. Even the Mercedes tech I showed the aftermarket to thought they were the real deal. That was before I butchered it. But if you saw them in person you would be able to tell by the light ballast. There are some imperfection in the plastic if you remove it and look at the other side.

Rod these aren't the USR ones. Another seller sells them. I think they came from alienexpress. If you look at the rear shot above, it's different from the USR. But the rear is probably the only difference between these and the USR ones.
