How to remove command head unit (specifically the air vents to access the HU)
Hello,
I am currently in the process of trying to remove my command head unit so that I can plug in a Farka cable (I am installing a back up reverse camera). I am following some very helpful instructions I found elsewhere on mbworld, but I am stuck at accessing the HU. To access the HU, you must first remove the trim/centre console air vents (which are one piece). I was able to unclip the trim with some dashboard tools I purchased, the last step before the whole thing comes off is to undo two clips inside the air vents (one on each side). However, this is proving to be very challenging.... I cannot get the driver side clip to do anything!! The entire thing is stuck because of this last inner vent driver side clip.
FYI - I have a 2012 c250 (w204) - but the key note here is that in 2012 they did a facelift in the dashboard design. (My screen is fixed, does not pop out the top like in previous years of this body style).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Just pull a bit harder. When you disconnect the wiring, tape it to something so you don't forget to reconnect. The 2 head unit screws must be undone at least 1cm the you need to tap them back down for the catches to release.

I had the same issue and took like 30 minutes of clip pushing and pulling to get it to come out. Sad to say, friend broke one of my air vent thingies. If you are looking at the YouTube video on how to access the back of the HU, it is NO WHERE near as easy as it looks, you have to be pretty rough.

Thanks @chrisdean & @xEryx
Heres a picture of the current state of my dashboard!
Also, a photo of the actual clip on the inner vent (driver side). Lots of mixed info out there... do you A) Push it in towards the driver side, or B) Pull it out towards the passenger side?
I've managed to get the trim off quite easily using some prying tools.
The only clip I can't get off is the inner vent driver side. Do you push it in or pull it out??

When I got mine off we were pulling the clips in the whole time. Right one came off super easy, but left one took over 30mins of pulling in and clip moving. I also saw some guides say that you need to pull out so I am confused. Lets just say I am not excited for taking it off again when I have to fix my broken vent thing.
