Crash, opinion on whether or not it's totalled

Few nights ago I was driving down unfamiliar road with my buddies, then going around a hairpin turn a deer jumped over guard rail on inside of turn and my reaction was to swerve around deer. Turn was too sharp and I was sent up a dirt embankment and into a tree. Gieco is checking out car and I should have answer by next weekend, 2012 c300 with about 50k miles, airbags went off but only damage was done to front. Anyone think its going to be totaled or repaired? The impact was a lower one and I believe mechanic said engine is fine but I won't know until inspection.

Damn sorry to hear. well at least no one was seriously injured, but its hard to tell from pictures if it totalled but it looks like theres extensive damage. Everyone knows the smallest things on a benz add up to costly repairs.

From numerous threads like this it all about what the extra damage comes out too. like the mechanic said you won't know until a full inspection is done.

I hope you get it all sorted out and get back into a benz again very soon.

Totaled or not totaled is a dollars and cents thing. Some carriers use a 70% criteria and others use 80% but the idea is the same. Carrier will determine the pre crash value of the car. Let's pick $20,000. Depending on the carrier, the car will be totaled if the cost to repair exceeds $14,000. (70%) or $16,000 (80%). Eyeballing it, I'm guessing not a total.

I know you were looking for opinions. It's understood only so much can be determined from photos.

However, IMO, that car is totaled.

Totaled

I keep thinking of the Geico squirrel commercial now.

As far as insurance companies go Geico is a good company. Hopefully they will take good care of you either way.

Those hairpin turns out in the country can hold some surprises. I once chased a baby calf from the middle of a hair pin turn. Seconds later a car flew by.

I'm glad you're OK. I hit in a deere in a different car and it was $4k in damage, but looked much better than your front end.

Good luck. I hope the insurance company treats you right.

Guaranteed that it will be totaled. I will see with just that front damage, and if you taken in account, the airbag, and the head rest, and the rest of the damage, for sure it will be a write off.

Well I'm hoping it isn't totaled though the windshield needs to be replaced as well, if it is totaled I hope I get enough that I can put money towards E-class with my savings. Honestly, I'm more worried about my insurance I am 18 so it's already high as it is.

So now with an accident on your record your insurance might be even higher.

I don't know your financial situation, but for an 18 year old, keep your savings as savings or invest it and don't blow it on an E-class.

It's okay, I hope it's totaled I just talked to mom and she's getting me a 2013 E350 so I don't need to spend my money. Once you drive benz it's hard to go back to honda or something.

Wow! Be sure to do something really nice for mom.

Ya very lucky! Check your insurance policy, most companies have a first accident waiver and your insurance won't go up on your first accident. If you by chance have a second, good luck to you!

Like Paul said you better do something nice for mom.

Did you at least clip the deer to make it worthwhile? Sry to hear about the car though, always a bummer :(.

edgalang May 31, 2016 03:04 PM

Do you have a dashcam? It is cases like these where if you didn't, it might have been better to have stomped on the brakes and hit the deer, instead of swerving. I know hindsight is 20/20, but reason I say this is because collision with an animal is universally accepted as a not-at-fault accident, whereas single car incidents generally would be.

Glad you made it out OP. Just be glad there wasn't any on coming traffic.

Devinb27 May 31, 2016 07:00 PM

FYI, from someone in insurance. always hit the deer. as bad as it sounds, hit the deer and it will be under comprehensive coverage vs your collision. this will be a not at fault accident and will not impact you policy.

someone mentioned that the insurance company determines the percentage in which they total, this is untrue as it is determine by state law. so using your state you can see if its a 70% 80% or 100% threshold. the DOI rules the insurance game.
