Tire rotation, corner to corner or front to back?
 

What is the recommended rotation pattern - can't find it in my manual. Corner to corner or back to front???

It will depend on your wheel set-up. If you have the staggered size wheel / tyre combination (like on a Sport model) then you cannot swap them around the car, just across the same axle. If the wheels are the same size all around then its gonna be OK to swap them around the car as usual

Not quite sure what "swap them around the car as usual" means. Called Mercedes customer Service and was advised to "X them" and when I questioned for confirmation and after some behind the scenes discussion - I was advised to rotate them "front to back". No rotation pattern shown in my owners manual that I can find.

My wheel alignment/force balance expert shop did not like the idea of front to back rotation - advised that the tires would cup if I did it this way. Did find a statement in my manual - "Do not change the wheel rotation". I have requested clarification from Continental - no word yet. As it sits now, we are at front to back rotation.

Any knowledgable help would be appreciated. I have not found the local mb dealer to be very happy to respond to questions like this.

Just received a response to my Continental inquiry showing 4 rotation patterns. Their advice - "DO IT ANY WAY YOU LIKE".

I have done this for many years with success. Crossing is best to prevent cupping on my C Class which is prone to it.

It would depend whether you have directional tyres as well. Then it would only be back to front.

I am not silly enough to own directional tyres especially the way my C Class cups tyres .

The alignment figures are perfect.

If the tyre company says cross rotation is perfectly in order & safe then that satisfies me.

Who is paying the new tyre bills, the car manufacturer or me ?

Look, so long as you don't have directional tyres and they are the same size on all four corners go with what Carsy has done.

Staggered and directional tires here so I don't rotate at all.
Rear tires last for 30k miles. No cupping or uneven wear either.

Yep, mine are staggered and directional with 40k kliks and still look like they have another 40k on them.

I've also got staggered and directional tyres... I have to get a new pair every season though :( :zoom::smash::nix::hammer:

Mine has staggered and directional Contisports, so no rotation possible. (245-40 in back/225-45 in front.) I hope to get the mileage Sentosa is getting!

Not sure where you are located but I can only assume Sentosa's tire life is measured in Kilometers, not Miles...

His 40K + hoping for another 40K would add p to 80K KMs which is just under 50K Miles... Sounds reasonable enough (at least in theory)... Although I don't think I have ever exceeded 45K Miles on my C300. Neither fronts and most certainly not rears.

My CPO C250 coupe odometer says 28574: my tread depth gauge reads 8/32Fr/5Rear......................not really sure when I'll need that USNR drill pay for new tires.

It certainly is a nice looking (Iridium/Ash) little coupe.
