Crisis with wheels
I have a w204 c200 cdi se 2012 blue efficiency. It has had the star on bonnet removed in place of the sport grille. It is black.
I am in a dilemma, I need to change tyres all round but nobody can give me a straight answer, not mercedes or the tyre garage.
I have the standard 7 spoked 16" alloys
They have 195/60/16 89v on the front and
205/55/16 91v on the back. All are michelin energy savers.
What no one can answer is:- can I put 205s all the way round? Will they fit on the front in place of the 195s? I cant see any advantage in having 195s on the front, or do I have to replace like for like?
Now for the opinion bit....
For the price of michelin all round, for a little more I could buy brand new 19" alloys with tyres on. Not mercedes ones, but fox racing or bbs. Would that look silly on my black w204? Would 17 or 18 inch wheels look better and more importantly improve drive/grip?
Im 40 years old so dont want to look like xzibit just pimped my ride!
Thanks
PV
You can certainly, without any problems, put 205s all around. It will fit.
I'd definitly go with bigger wheels. If you still want some ride comfort, I'd get 18s and not 19s. 17s would be okay but 18s would look way better. I'm currently on OEM 18s AMG wheels that I'll be using for winter and I'll get some black 18s for the summer.
It will definitly look better, a lot better.
Welcome to the forum!
I do not even think about larger wheels because I prefer comfort over perceived looks any day. My suspension also thanks me every time I hit a corrugated surface or pothole.
All the hype over larger wheels & skinny tyres is just fashion beating common sense. Having a staggered set up is marketing & sales joke on consumers
If you drive so close to critical speeds around corners you should be on the race track with slicks.
End of sermon.
Good luck with keeping your hard earned in your wallet.

As for rim size & comfort, I've found my 18 inch summer wheels to ride just as comfortably as my 17 inch winter wheels. Tire selection is a major factor in ride quality, but in general, the larger the rim, the more bumpy the ride is likely to be. Can't say I find a whole lot of difference between 225/40/18 and 225/45/17, though.

As my wife likes to say, "If it don't hurt, it don't look good." lol
(Okay, she was referring to wearing high heels but you get the point)
