Hood won't open

When I pull the hood release it only unlatches the driver side. Has anyone dealt with this? I assume I will have to go through the passenger side wheel well to get it open and then assess the problem and fix. I was just hoping someone had an easier trick to open it. Any advice appreciated.

Pull it more

LOL, if it were only that easy. I even pulled on the cable as hard as I could to see if it would help.

Sometimes when I'd pull mine it would sound like it would open but it wouldn't. I'd go back and pull it harder and it would work. Thought it was worth a shot :P

I'm willing to try anything before diving in through the wheel well.

Have you tried pulling up on the hood on the stuck side to see if you can unstick the latch? The passenger side latch was gummed up on mine and would stick like this and just pulling up on the hood would free it. I sprayed lithium grease on the latches after and they haven't stuck since.

Try easing the spring load on the catch by pushing down whilst someone else pulls the release. If not try a firm jiggle motion .

Lubricate the hinges & catches if you do get it open. You may have to adjust the wires as they may have stretched.

I had someone push, bounce and lift on the hood while I pulled the lever. Nothing worked. Seems very stuck. Any other options?

Can the hood lever be removed under the dash?. You may then be able to create a little more length of "pull" wire .

When you or someone pulls the lever, have yourself or someone pull up on the hood while the hood pops up. Make sure to do this AT THE SAME TIME as the lever is being pulled?

Just a suggestion; something might break if otherwise, so do not take my advice if you do not want to risk breaking something.

Might also depend on how big your hands are and how orange your skin is.

So as it turns out, the cable has a small plastic notch were it inserts into the latch to hold it in place so when you pull the cable it moves inside the cable sleeve. This 1/16" piece of plastic is apparently supposed to last the life of the car... Thanks Mercedes, but you failed at engineering on this one.

At least the cable was easy to get to through the wheel well.

Yeah our transmissions are supposed to live the life of the car too.

.-.

Always great to hear about a problem being solved.

So many do not bother ,

thanks.
