Command Failure 30 minutes after recall

Hey Guys, I just need some advice because I find it very hard to believe in coincidences.

I took in my 09 C300 Luxury with the pop up command screen to the dealer for an oil change and to perform the SRS module recall. The car has 51k miles and was running flawless prior to the service.

On my drive home, the screen started flashing white for a few seconds and then changed to black and stayed black.

Obviously suspicious, I took the car back to the dealer the next day and left it to get looked at. The service manager called me back and told me that after doing some digging, they looked at the diagnostics for the car and it said that the fan that cooled down the command unit failed almost exactly 30 miles after the service was completed, that my car is out of warranty, that the the system failed outside of the dealership, and that I was stuck with a $1,700 repair bill if I want to get a reman unit installed.

Does this sound fishy to anyone else?

Is it at all possible that the installation of the SRS module might have disconnected or broken the cooling fan? Is this a common problem on these cars, and if so is there anywhere that I can join in to a class action law suit? Are there any aftermarket units that will integrate with the steering wheel controls and center knob? Really what are my options?

Thanks to anyone that read this

I always hated the idea of bringing anything in to the dealer for work, if i cant see my car being worked on. But for recalls there is no other way around it. I know that the SRS system is near or around the center console, the command could have been damage while they were working on your recall.

I have to agree with A1 and OP. all these things are in close proximity to each other. I find it hard to believe that the system has worked for 51,000 miles then 30 minutes after a dealer service, it dies.

I would politely discuss this point with dealership, you might be completely pissing in the wind, but just maybe, they'd meet you halfway or better on the repair and save you $850
