Saw this on my tire today, not losing any air pressure -- leave it?

Might not be losing any air but a good chunk of the tire is now gone. That has to weaken that area of the sidewall to some extent. For your safety and the safety of anyone in the car I would look into replacement. Saving a few $$'s isn't worth a blowout at speed and the resulting damage and injury that might cause.

I would definitely get that replaced; not worth the risk. Hopefully you have road hazard insurance when you bought your tires.

Looks bad time for a new tire. I would not want to see you have a blow out.

That's a pretty deep gouge you got there. Any idea how that might have happened?

I agree with everyone else, replace the tire. It cannot be repaired on the sidewall like that. You hit a bump at just the right time and it could go.

Yeah. I don't know how it happened. I am 99% sure it was not from my driving. Could have been that way when I got it from the dealer, didn't really look.

I'm under the impression that when dealing with a 4 wheel drive car you can't replace tires in pairs... has to be all 4. Is that the case here?

Unfortunately, that is the case (unless your other tires are fairly new).
  1. Mismatched tires are often a primary factor in drivetrain damage.
  2. To minimize variances, always match tires: same brand, size and type.
  3. The tread depth difference between front and rear tires should be no more than 3/32nds of an inch.
  4. If it is, you’ve got a problem with tire circumference difference. Get all four tires replaced.

I was driving with ripped tire (feeling mettal wires) on the inside wall and it was normal.. if you dont want to spend 170$ on new continentals, check for used tires in your area, some auto shops companies sell them for like 50$. In my opinion its not bad at all compared to what i had.

Good suggestion.

OP should check out bestusedtires.com
You might be able to find one close to the tread level of your other tires.

Tires are cheap, if you don’t have to get name brand tires.
I replaced my rare tires with "Achilles ATR Sport 2 Performance Radial Tire - 245/40R17 95W” for $86.00 each back in Nov 2015 when the car had 32k miles. I couldn’t tell the difference from the OEM whatever was on from the factory to this unknown brand.
As of today with 54k the tires still have 10 to 15k left.

Although sidewall are meant to take abuse like that, I'd still get it replaced.......have a road hazard warranty? Or maybe a pro-rated tire from where you got the tire? Anything to try and minimize the money out of your own pocket......but as many have said......get a new one.
